avengers63
I hsve a late 80's steinberger with a wood body & graphite neck. I don't play it any more because the neck is too narrow for me. I didn't realize this until I bought a guitar with a wide neck. At this point, I want to replace the neck with a wider, wooden one. The heel is an exclusive design, so an "off the shelf" neck won't work. I called Warmoth about making one, but they said it would cost "more than 2 new Steinbergers". Does anyone have any suggestions on whom I can contact?
GregP
Yup. Your local instrument-grade wood distributor. ;-) Unless you truly love that guitar more than life itself (or more than several hundred dollars), your best, most realistic solution is to learn how to build a neck. For something that's a full-on copy job Another tip is that those graphite necks are fairly sought-after. You could always try selling it to defray the cost. If you couldn't be arsed selling it, I'd be happy to take it off your hands. ;-)
Bobby
Bah...you would at least get a epiphone in change from 2 x Steinbergers (USG)....BTW dont you just hate when you have to many Chiquita’s in your pocket after a days shopping....I hate small change, ..oh ..can anyone break a Duesenburg into 3 Jacksons for me? crafty
Warmoth is so stuck on their Fender-standard heel designs that they have no imagination for products outside of that realm. If you aren't comfortable making your own neck, consider either a local reputable luthier or hang out here for a while and check out some of the pro's work around here. avengers63
Warmoth is so stuck on their Fender-standard heel designs that they have no imagination for products outside of that realm. They told me that it could be done, but the process would be cost prohibitive. They described a process of getting the specs from my Steinberger, then programing their machine, all of which they'd have to pay someone to do. So.... are there any luthiers here located in the St. Louis area?
