guitar2005 Posted September 15, 2007 Report Posted September 15, 2007 a friend of mine accidentally and gently dropped his beloved Gibson Thunderbird bass. The headstock on it cracked all the way on the tuner side and partially on the other side. I'll be gluing the thing back together, making sure I work the glue in really well to make sure it covers the entire crack. While looking at his bass, I noticed that frets 1 to 7 are pitted, some real bad. As long I'm working on the bass and do a full setup, I might as well fix these frets. I only want to replace the first 7 frets because the others really don't look too bad. The thing is, I'm not sure what fretwire to get. I've got some tall/medium wire from stew mac but it doesn't look right. Anyone know what fret size I should get? I'm tempted to go with wide/highest. Any opinions? Quote
Setch Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 Get a pair of calipers on the exisiting wire, and take some measurements. Quote

Jon Posted September 16, 2007 Report Posted September 16, 2007 Then you've got some purchasing to do, buddy! A caliper is an incredibly handy tool that is very important in the workshop. Also, I don't know what size the frets are, I have yet to come across a Gibson bass. Quote
