ovation22 Posted November 18, 2003 Report Posted November 18, 2003 This question goes along with KevinS Neck Shaping question. What would be the best way to make a compound radius fretboard? Multiple sanding blocks with different contours? Quote
daveq Posted November 18, 2003 Report Posted November 18, 2003 There are a couple of jig designs out there - one for a belt sander and one for a router. I don't think either of them are quick to build (the only one I have much knowledge about is the router jig). There has been some talk here about just using a long - straight sanding surface by hand (in a conical motion). So far, I have been buying my fretboards pre-radiused and slotted. Some day, I plan to build the router jig but I have too much to do to even think about that right now. Quote
johntbyrne Posted November 20, 2003 Report Posted November 20, 2003 Jig idea being finalized. Will then build. Stay tuned. Quote
krazyderek Posted November 20, 2003 Report Posted November 20, 2003 ....and really don't want to spend the money on one right now (translated, wife said no) anyways, i think someone already posted something similar... basicly arms that swing the neck across a large sanding belt..., but i'll give you credit that your idea sounds a bit easier to build. tsl602000 Posted November 20, 2003 Report Posted November 20, 2003 Does anybody know how the big boys do it? CNC router..... Why don't you try several radius blocks? Quote
ovation22 Posted November 20, 2003 Author Report Posted November 20, 2003 CNC router..... That's what I figured, quick and easy. Why don't you try several radius blocks? I think that's what I'll do. Thanks. Quote
johntbyrne Posted November 20, 2003 Report Posted November 20, 2003 Decided to finish radius jig design and test. Stay tuned. Quote

johntbyrne Posted November 21, 2003 Report Posted November 21, 2003 New developments. Please hang tight and I'll get back to ya. I suspect you can open a dxf without problems. Do you have a table belt sander? If so how long is the belt? Quote
