Bmth Builder
Title says it all, can you swirl a neck through with out getting any on the neck its self, careful masking the key? or just not possible? I know that Herc only offer swirls on bolt ons, may be they just cant be bothered with the hassle of priming and swirling just the body area, or may be they know not to try lol... Cheers I lil addtional extra info I posted below The swirl I am talking about is a dip swirl, where the guitar is submersed in water and paint floating on the water affixes its self to the already base coated body, seen here, http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/swirled.htm Fede Herc the company I was talkin about has a great gallery which will kinda show you what I mean by swirl paint seen here, (lots of pics) http://www.fededesigns.com/guitarswirls.cfm I should also state that I want the neck to be natural, so there would have to be a clear line where the swirl body stops and the neck begins. MescaBug
Not sure if I understand your question, but yes a swirl paint can be done on a neck-thru. Jackson offers the Eerie Dess Swirl paint scheme on their neck-thru models Edited March 1, 2008 by MescaBug
Bmth Builder
Sorry I will be more precise. The swirl I am talking about is a dip swirl, where the guitar is submersed in water and paint floating on the water affixes its self to the already base coated body, seen here, http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/swirled.htm Fede Herc the company I was talkin about has a great gallery which will kinda show you what I mean by swirl paint seen here, (lots of pics) http://www.fededesigns.com/guitarswirls.cfm Now what Jackson calls erie swirl isnt actualy the same painting technique, that looks more like some one has airbrushed the design onto the entire body. I should also state that I want the neck to be natural, so there would have to be a clear line where the swirl body stops and the neck begins. mikke
Sorry for posting to a old topic, but could anybody explain me how the eerie dess swirl is done?
syxxstring
Erie Dess swirl is a product called marbelizer. You spray it on, place plastic wrap over it and twist it off. You can do a lot of other stuff with it too,its a slow drying pearl paint. It is a silver white pearl color. The colors come from using transparent paints over it before clearing.(kandying) Funny enough in some old House Of Kolor catalouges the cans of marbelizer are labeled Erie Dess. Foggy
I know this is an old thread, so this is purely in case this information is of any use to you guys. But I also noticed that Neil is UK based, so particularly for those Brits on here considering this dipped swirl finish, this website might be of some interest to you. Out of this swirled Jim Edited April 19, 2009 by Foggy

Maiden69
Alsa's crazer is a similar but very different effect. Also they have discontinued some of their paints like the Cystal Fx. Yeah, I was looking around their site for that one, since I want to make a guitar for my son with a kick ass finish... I don't like the crazer too much, so I will look around to see what I can do.
