Shamrock Guitar
Hello everyone here! I just joined the site a few minutes ago, this is actually the only and first forum I belong to! I've been interested in making guitars for a few months now. I've never done any searches or anything like that on making guitars so when I found this site, I was really impressed! I will also be making a donation to this site as I am very serious about building guitars now. I currently run a CNC machine right now and have roughly 15 years of experience with AutoCAD. I have a Biesse Rover B CNC Router which I use to make circular staircases and just a bunch of other cool stuff. I would love to be able to post pictures, videos, and whatever else I can on here about my first project. I'd like to use a CAD template if someone has one in the download section (which I haven't seen yet, guess it won't come up until I make a donation) as my first attempt. Unfortunately I don't play the guitar but every single one of my friends do and they said they would be glad to see how each guitar resonates. So I'm just really excited about actually starting! I'll keep everyone posted and hopefully everyone will enjoy! Quote Link to comment
joshvegas
Welcome. If you don't play guitar perhaps it would be a good idea to borrow one and learn a few chords just to get a feel for how they work having said that a certain mr fender wasn't a player! Also there are books you should definately read, I have only read "make your own electric guitar" by Melvyn Hiscock so I can only recommend that to you it is very clear on most things and doesn't require much knowledge of guitars to understand it. Shamrock Guitar
Thanks for the references and welcomes! I've been reading the Martin Koch book so I'll have to see if I can get ahold of the Melvin Hiscock. Having a CNC machine is alright I guess. I think I'm just use to it now. Whats really great is that I have an unlimited supply of ash...or ANY other type of wood in the world for that matter. Right now I plan on making several guitars of each kind. The first type of guitar I building first is a replica '57 fender strat. All vintage parts (really freaking exspensive) and I don't really like that burst paint job...I was thinking about just going blonde. And then just depending on how all that turns out, I'll be making several more tremolo's. I've got the body completely figured out and I just need to do a little more work on it in cad today...then I can prep the wood, throw it on the cnc and thats it. I have not got started on the neck though, thats a little tough. But I really cant wait to build a hard tailed... Quote Link to comment
RGman
Welcome. I love the Biesse Rover machines, we have a rover20 and it is one massive monster of machine (but unfortunately for me it's panels only) Edited April 4, 2008 by RGman Quote Link to comment
