  1. Nice work crow! That link with all that dick in the title did give me a scare though
  2. Looks like ash, still a bit rough to say for definite.
  3. +1 I can't say i play any guitars that i have built, all of them played fine, just the small problems i couldn't live with. Getting there though.
  4. They are pretty common in cheaper guitars, epiphone was a big user and i have an acoustic with the same tuners. That worm gear looks very worn compared to the tuners i have sitting here.
  5. Pity my other half want to live in Adelaide... I want live in the damn Maton factory!
  6. Ahh makes sense, skipped over most of it to look at the pics! Good on you for asking before hand though, saved you some mess potentially.
  7. Only if you want your guitar to be under 20mm thick For a top on the other hand For blackwood for bodies check Mathews timber which is somewhere in Melbourne.
  8. Yeah i was talking about the likely intonation issues that may occur without the bass side set back.
  9. I would move to melbourne, just to work there. What do you do there? Duties? Training?
  10. I guess in the end it all comes down to preference. What do you enjoy playing? Set Neck, Through Neck or Bolt On. I like neck through as they are comfortable in the upper ranges. Set neck is good too and is easier to fret than neck through (i wouldn't fret a board unless it was on the neck, some people do though) Bolt on is easier than set and through necks, also easily replaced if you screw up.
  11. There is probably very minimal differences, but i have never tested this myself. I like neck through for looks and when done the right way, the upper fret access is amazing.
  12. Buy a roll or three. It is so much cheaper in the long run, then all you have to do is bend it to whatever radius you want. You build many guitars, would this not be ideal? Stew-mac sells tubes of 40+ feet don't they?
  13. I'm sure stew-mac and ebay could provide you with some nice maple.
  14. I wouldn't mind knowing too, all major suppliers only sell the Ibex bending iron Not sure where else you could get them?
  15. Looks good as is i think. I vote for no stain.
  16. Welcome. I love the Biesse Rover machines, we have a rover20 and it is one massive monster of machine (but unfortunately for me it's panels only)
  17. Did you get the GMC one at bunnings? How much was it, about $300? Yep, that exact one. Works well and absolutely no snipe Now for some dust extraction
  18. Ouch! you should be refunded by the postage company. But thats easier said than done..
  19. A fairly cheap one like this: http://www.gmcompany.com.au/index.cfm?modu...cts&pid=608 These things get re-branded in different countries, so everyone would have their own version in their homeland. I was looking at more expensive carba-tec machines but they do the same thing and this one had very good reviews.
  20. It's doing me damn well, its not so bad with figured woods...just a little tear out. Heck, i couldn't have done much on this build without it. Bank account hurts a little now..
  21. Start spraying your nitro/poly/what have ye.
