14th Fret Neck To Body Join

Is there a reason why the neck joins the body at the 14th or 12th fret other than it has to join at some place? My join is between the 13th and 14th, the bridge is not on so as long as the bridge placement is correct I can't see why other than aesthetics the neck/body join won't be a problem

Heavy reliance on well-worn traditional designs, and derivations from them I would suspect. My two acoustics join at just over the 14th fret FWIW. I'm not an expert on acoustics however. I just play 'em.
