Xanthus
Hey all! For mah burfday, my Dad bought me a 500GB firewire external. I'm planning on splitting it in half and using half for Time Machine, while transporting my software instruments onto the other half. I didn't know what the general consensus was with recording from an external. I know lots of people bounce to/record onto an external. I'm just looking to free up space on my Mac and take off everything that I'm probably not going to use while on the train or hanging out at a friend's. I have: -Stormdrum -Kontakt -Superior Drummer 2 and DFH -Quantum Leap Gold I just didn't know if performance/lag/latency would be affected by dumping the samples over to an external. If it makes any difference, I'm recording through a Fast Track Pro. Edited April 2, 2009 by Xanthus
Thoughtless 7
Is the drive USB2/eSATA? I don't think you will notice THAT much difference, maybe a couple extra settings loading them into the program, but i don't think you will notice. This is just my opinion, and a humble one at that. Thoughtless 7
Obviously i can't read! If i remember correctly, firewire is slightly slower than USB2, but i don't think you will notice the difference between the two in the real world. Xanthus
haha no, just pointing it out USB2 is better on paper, but FW has faster real-world speeds, but that's not here nor there. Maybe I should just try it out and see what happens... Now, to find free time to dedicate to music-makin'...
Thoughtless 7
Yeah, trial and error and all that. But, imho, i don't think you will notice anything, other than extra HDD space!!
