Bmth Builder
Hey can any one tell me whether the damage at this neck joint is just in the finish or whether the actual joint has cracked and moved (to me it looks like its just in the finish but I dont know). Also can any one tell me what the finish is, nitro or poly etc, there is definatly some colour in the clear coat, if I tried to repair it by adding more nitro to melt the crack will I have to match the colour thats in the finish, or will clear be fine? Cheers
wood is good
We cant possibly tell you what the finish is just by looking at the pics! Is it a gibson? That is the most common spot for finish cracks on gibbys. Mostly from when someone holds the whole guitar up by the neck or something. Usually just stress cracks from doing that. Sand Paper
Looks like a check in the finish. It's not that big of a deal really. I wouldn't do anything to it, but if it bothers you I guess you could have at it with some solvent or some CA glue.
Kammo1
That is a finish check and not a crack at the neck joint trust me. To fix it simply clear the excess laquer or whatever finish that is on there ie the loose stuff and then get some ordinary clear nail varnish and drop fill it till you have the required amount to level and smooth it down and then with some very fine wet/dry paper smooth down and polish, hope this helps. Bmth Builder
Hey thanks for the replies guys Is this finish definatly going to be nitro? Is there any specific nail varnish, or will any work, or just get some wipe on nitro to repair? Cheers
syxxstring
On an epiphone, it is most likely not going to be nitro. I don't know of any recent models done in nitro from them, but there could be an oddball out there.
Setch
On an Epi it's 100% not nitro. You can drop fill that with CA glue, then carefully scrape flat and polish. Alternatively you can leave it alone. I recommended the second approach by a country mile.
