Untitled_Project Posted July 29, 2010 Report Share Posted July 29, 2010 Okay, I have installed a fr on my other guitar but it is not fully floating. My next guitar I would like it to float. I'm sure floydrose.com has the info I need but its under construction. So before I ruin a perfectly good body blank....a few questions 1. Does my neck need to have an angle? 2. Does anyone know where to get some plans? I am by no means an expert on this and would greatly appreciate help--i dont want to mess up. Reinhold Posted July 29, 2010 Report Share Posted July 29, 2010 If it's low profiled, it does not need a neck angle as far as I know. I'm doing my build that way without one and it looked fine on the CAD models. I'm using a speedloader however and I believe that they use a slightly different route than an original, so I can't really be sure that I would be giving you accurate plans. Narcissism Posted July 29, 2010 Report Share Posted July 29, 2010 If you have the bridge in hand, a set of calipers, and some basic algebra under your belt, you should be able to easily figure out everything you need to know about routing for the thing. No, you do not need any neck angle, you can check out how I put one in, Click Here you will have to wade through a lot of chat but the Floydie does eventually get installed with step by step explanation and progress shots and works great, good luck and let us know how you go. It is 15 mm at the deepest part (under the fine tuners) which is plenty for the trem that I used. I would really recommend trying out the route on some scrap wood first, I practiced on an mdf body and really stuffed up the first go. But which one? And one more question for the road; My pickup pole-piece spacing is 1cm or .4 inches. The string spacing on the low profile fr is the same. The question is..... *Will the neck pickup's pole-pieces still line up with the strings? I'm thinking yes but will not order the floyd until I am 100% certain. Muzz Posted August 1, 2010 Report Share Posted August 1, 2010 You should be fine with a Schaller, and if your pick up is close to the bridge, your strings should line up OK, the tiny bit of taper shouldn't be noticeable, the way to check is draw out the neck to bridge, strings and pickup poles life size on paper.
