verhoevenc Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 I'm thinking about putting this on the first version of my Marlin shape (altered for this project) as an acoustic. Ya know... to tone down some of the modern design aspects with a very traditional binding scheme. Chris Quote
ihocky2 Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 Looks killer. How will you do the binding like that. I'm sure you want to spray the color once the binding is attached, but I always have trouble taping off along the top curve, and it's never that thin. Quote
verhoevenc Posted August 4, 2010 Author Report Posted August 4, 2010 It's all in the order! You mask off the BINDING and seal the top/back and sides. Then you rub the dye on the binding. Then seal everything. Then tape up the binding and purfling and spray your burst on the top. Since the binding is done with dye and not spray, when you razorblade scrap to perfect the burst around the purfling lines you have the thickness of your seal coat that you did on the binding BEFORE you start getting into the dyed color. Also, it'll take a LOT more scraping to mess with the dyed maple than it would if you had sprayed the maple. I guess you could also spray the burst and the binding at the same time, and then make a special scraper that that bridges over the binding and only scraps at the depth of the purfling lines... but that seems harder. cSuttle Posted August 12, 2010 Report Posted August 12, 2010 Interest. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished piece. Quote
