Stainless Steel Rods As Frets

Recommended Posts

one question Why?

if your wanting cheap well i dont see you saving enough money to make it worth it.

if your wanting big wire look at jumbo bass frets

if your wanting to be diffent go for it.

also a warning most stainless stock is fairly soft do your home work and make sure you buy some hardened stainless.

Yeah, mostly to be different. I'm like the old grandpa that's always out in the garage making stuff. I always want to see if there's a better way to do something and I sort of have a problem with being told things have to be done only one way. It's fun.

It would be wise to cut fret slots as per normal, bevel them heavily with a square file at 45° and finish with a Dremel.

That's a great idea. I'm going to do it that way.

I'll be gone for a few weeks, but when I get back I'll post my results. They should be interesting if nothing else.
