Scooby Posted February 2, 2004 Report Posted February 2, 2004 I have noticed you can get a fret saw from Stew Mac, but can you get a saw like this from any wood working store? Or how else can you cut your frets without getting this saw from Stew Mac? Thanks in advance. Quote
daveq Posted February 2, 2004 Report Posted February 2, 2004 You can buy something called a "gents saw". The width of the cut is very important though. I think the width of the stewmac saw is .024"??? If you are using their fretwire, then you need a saw that cuts that width. You should always check the fretwire to be sure what width slot to cut - but yes, you can use other saws. Quote
krazyderek Posted February 2, 2004 Report Posted February 2, 2004 i checked the slots on one of my fresh boards with feeler guages and i got .022" but i was also under the assumption that it was .024" if you go to a specialty tool store you might have a bit of luck, just take with you, or ask to use a set of digital calipers to measure teh kerf (thickness) of the blade on the cutting edge.
