Bojangles1594
Hello Everyone! Just joined the forum! I was recently given an Ibanez Gio body to practice refinishing wood. So far I've tried using a heat gun and scraping (this worked for my snare drum), but the finish does not bubble or soften. Right now I'm letting the body sit in a layer of CitriStrip and will try to scrap after a few hours. Does anyone have any advice to quickly remove the finish? * I will post pictures of the body if the CitriStrip doesn't work. (Forgot to take pictures beforehand)
Charlie H 72
welcome- The slow way is the fast way-try sanding! Best if you have an orbital or something like that to help move things along though.
Bizman62
Welcome! Sanding or scraping - a properly sharpened cabinet scraper can be very effective! Whichever method you choose, wear a mask. The paint dust isn't the most healthy thing to inhale! Another thing to know is that the current finish can be very thick, it will take quite a lot of effort to get to bare wood. There's some more info about stripping an Ibanez in a fifteen years old thread: https://www.projectguitar.com/forums/topic/7344-my-adventure-trying-to-sand-an-ibanez-rg/
