tonzjonz
Anyone out there know how the Custom shops reproduce the "aged/worn" look on their guitars, both the neck and the body. Thanks for any info.
CaptMysterio
i have no idea how the custom shops do it. but i'd venture to guess that they just do some selective sanding with some super-fine grit sandpaper (800+) maybe? or maybe exessive use of buffing compound and a cutting pad? just some ideas. canuckguitarist
The process is called relic-ing and I did it using steel wool.
alan hipson
Hi I have light rubbed 0000 steel woolon my neck to get this effect. it basically strips some of the clear coat then you give it give it a polish to remove the hazyness. It makes your neck really slick feeling. Alan
Hotrock
I think there might be a tutorial on relicing. AlexVDL has done a very nice one, and there is another thread about it somewhere. Someone else has just done a good one too but I can't remember where it is. From what I remember ageing the scratchplate and controls is the crux of the problem, but never having done it I could quite easily be wrong.
