JohnnyG Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 yes im now back and already asking questions. ansil is probablly the one who would know but other people are free to speak basically, what i want to know is thus. 1) i want to make myself a delay pedal, however im looking for something with quite a long delay, up to about a second and a half, and a set of BBD chips in series would lead to some nasty noise problems i suspect. so if anybody knows of a decent chip (probablly some digital processor doodad) that may be useful, could they tell me number 2) i want to know what sort of chips would be used in one of the wireless cable things. eg what sort of transmitter and reciever chiips are used many thanks Quote
lovekraft Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 1) i want to make myself a delay pedal, however im looking for something with quite a long delay, up to about a second and a half, and a set of BBD chips in series would lead to some nasty noise problems i suspect. so if anybody knows of a decent chip (probablly some digital processor doodad) that may be useful, could they tell me Do a Google search on Audio DSP chips - there are several excellent delay/multifunction chips around, but I'm not smart enough to use 'em (strictly analog). So far as I know, the BBD chips are all out of production now, so they are expensive and hard to find. They're also noisy and cantankerous in my experience - check Aron's Stompbox Page and Geofex for more ideas and classic schematics. number 2) i want to know what sort of chips would be used in one of the wireless cable things. eg what sort of transmitter and reciever chiips are used many thanks Don't want to be a buzz-kill, but you've picked an area where it's hard to homebrew anything that's useable. Manufacturers spend big dollars to get stable, reliable RF circuits designed. You might be able to hack something together with Wi-Fi chips, but I don't know what kind of audio quality you could expect. Here's a link to Mark Hammer's wireless project on Ampage: Radioactive. Ansil might have some ideas, or you might check around for FM wireless mike projects. HTH Quote
ansil Posted April 23, 2004 Report Posted April 23, 2004 check out town pads rebote delay.. i belive its called does almost a second at around 5 bucks a chip not bad. adn the datasheet is prettymuch right on pt2399 i belive is the chip look up smallbearelec.com http://smallbearelec.com/Ordering/Stocklist.htm PT2399 Princeton Technologies Digital Echo/Delay on a 16-pin DIP with a minimum of external components. Delay time set by external resistors. http://www.orchard1.com.tw/ics/pdfile/audio/2399s.pdf theres the datasheet. 2M resistor gives 342ms i figure two chips at 3.99 and aprox 1M each. or maybe three chips have you though of using a tape delay, i have a cassete version on my old site geocities.com/cemaynard1134/ its the cassette oplex.. if i can dig it up i will try to find it for you. it works great though.. i put it in a vol pedal and used it to control the delay time Quote
lovekraft Posted April 23, 2004 Report Posted April 23, 2004 Ansil, you rock! That's a great chip, and quiet. I'm thinkin phase shift oscillator with an inverter driving two chips opposite phase with slightly different delay times for a huge stereo chorus effect. Waddaya think, optos or JFETs in place of the time setting resistor? Man, I gotta get me one of those to play with! Thanks, dude - now I can play with delays again. Quote
JohnnyG Posted April 23, 2004 Author Report Posted April 23, 2004 thanks for the advice guys lovekraft i can see what you mean about the wireless jobby and being a bit tricky to do but i at least want to have a go. i've sen the radioactive thing and it looks quite useful tho i wont use the distortion option on it. ill have a peruse over the WiFi chips as well i think that for the delay i'll go oldschool with ansils idea for the tape delay. (my dad tells me stories of when he was my age in a band and how he always ended up being the guy to repair the tape when it broke lol) ive seen the pt2399 and if i can find somewhere in the UK to get them i may have a go at hashing something together from it. ill also lok into the rebote chip many thanks guys. very useful. as soon as my mini muff is finished (cut down version of the big muff, more like a porn star stripe than a muff i suppose ) ill start playing around with some of these lol Quote
ansil Posted April 23, 2004 Report Posted April 23, 2004 i would say optos lovekraft as i am loving those right now. i am replacing the motor controls with optos in the drunk spider. good luck johhnyg if you need me to get a couple chips for ya and mail across the pond hollar, i got to do some uk shipping later this month anyway also the mini cassette recorders can be put in a crybaby wah pedal with a little switch and two knobs on the side so you can preset the delay time ie speed and use the rocker to fade the delay in and out . or you can filp the toggle the other way and have the vol preset and use the rocker to control the delay ie speed as always glad to help Quote
JohnnyG Posted April 23, 2004 Author Report Posted April 23, 2004 atm im living the good student life and am totally skint so i wont be getting anything too soon unless i can get it through my school. ill keep your offer in mind tho Quote
