mcbmoreno
Hey, I just bought am old delta rockwell 4" jointer. It works fine but definitly looks like its age. Anyone know the best way to clean up all the metal. I am going to re paint all the areas which were painted but the areas on the table and the fence which were long ago a shiny metal are now a rustic grimey brown. Anyone know how I could clean this up? Thanks, Mike

jay5
I would think that the best way to start would be to take some steel wool to the rusty areas and try to clean up the mess. I would pay particular attention to the top. Hopefully it hasnt pitted at all (unlikely). You could probably use a fine sandpaper to really smooth it out (the top). For the rest of the body just sand that mess of and paint it up with whatever. I know there is a Krylon spraypaint for metal/rust resistance. Morben's link looks like a good bet too. Maybe give it some flames, monster garage style Good luck with it.
mcbmoreno
Hey thanks for the advice guys. I wound up using some grease cutter called purple power and some sand paper for the table and a wire brush for the cast iron. Taped it up last night and am going to prime it when I get home from work.
