Hardball
When designing the neck, what has to be taken into account as far as the locking nut. I know that, on a 25.5" scale guitar, the first fret starts at 1.431" from the inside, or the edge toward the bridge, of the nut. Taking this into account, on the locking nut should the measurement be taken from the point on the nut that the "locking plate" clamps the string, or from the actual front edge of the locking nut. I have always wondered that, or even if it would make a difference, it is, after all, almost two millimeters thick metal. Thanks in advance guys. BTW, I am currently "designing" my first self built guitar. Been playing for over 20 years and have never had the courage till I found this site. We shall see.... GuitarMaestro
from the edge of the nut it's self Correct. If you think about it it's very logical too....the string can only move AFTER it has left the locking nut and generate a tone....So the string length should be measured where the string leaves the locking nut. Hardball
I kind of figured that, but wanted to make very sure that I was right when drawing the guitar. I hate mistakes and want it right the first time. Thanks for the replies.
