DaveK
Gang: I am trying to do a "Drop Top" ala Tom Anderson My concern is the difficulty of "bending" the 1/4 inch Maple top to the shape of the contour of the strat body Is this hard to do.... Are there any tips in doing so Drop Top Dave K
Scott Rosenberger
you'll need a vacuum table to do it... basically a big thick plastic bag with a vacuum pump attached. You glue the top on and suck all the air out of the bag which bends the top somehow Ive seen the vacuum table at vh-guitarstore.com but I dont know whats done in prepareing the top before it's attached. ie. wet it steam etc.
Blackstrat86
I always thought..you can just wet and heat the top and slowly bend it wita jig of some sort. GnL also uses the vaccume system but it can be a pricey deal...
vh-guitarstore.com
you can buy a vacuum press for as low as $350.........1/4 inch is a little too thick to bend.....anderson uses 3/16 inch tops, most others use 1/8........you have to be careful using anything wet when bending, it can have an adverse effect on the glue joint...i buy my tops from the same guy that supplies anderson an a bunch of others in the industry

vh-guitarstore.com
do you mean do a replica of a anderson? i guess, ive never had one in the shop nor have i really looked closely....but i think its just a strat body w/ zero radius edges...i dont know what their cavity routs look like....but basically we can get very close with a pic
