Camphor Burl

Recommended Posts

I've seen a bunch of camphor burl for sale for guitar building but man, that stuff is truely "sick" looking when raw. It looks like a disection of diseased human flesh.

lots of camphor burl

When finished, it can look pretty damn sweet.

Sweet Bass

Has anyone here used it? If so, can you share your experience in working with it in building and finishing? It looks like a real pain to handle the pits and swirls but I guess that could be said for other burls as well.

It looks like Freddy Kreuger's face.

I can't say I "like" it, but it's certainly interesting, which makes it better than 98% of the woods out there. :D

i think its allright if used sparringly. also think it looks better on basses.

didnt the guy from ambelic use some grey burl on a top. didnt look to bad

mmmm.... buckeye burl is that grey and yellow stuff, pretty dang cool!

I like camphor burl. It looks like birds eye maple, except with only the birdseye and no maple. Oh yeah, and it's a gorgeous orangey-red too!

all of the burls ive seen on the web, ebay and such seem to usually have quite a few knots or holes or something, how would one go about clearing up those knots?

or would one just try their hardest to find a flawless piece of burl?

eh?,

Tim

oh and i think it looks lovely... and he should've gone with brass or gold, not chrome or black IMO
