  1. Sorry mate was having a blonde day. I got the timber from Goodtimber in Northampton. There number is in the Yellow Pages but I'm afraid I dont have it here with me! I paid a combined total of 35 pounds for each blank and 21 pounds for a one piece rock maple neck black for the neck. They are excellent people and will actually find you some great wood! Give them a call if your in the UK!
  2. Thanks fidgec, but I didnt pay anything for them I actually took them off a UV I had ages ago. The only diff was that the original UV had the full heel not AANJ and this one has been customised for AANJ. I have the blanks for both now. It just makes life so much easier when your working to a template!
  3. no worries I have either a template I can post to you or I can email you the specs. let me know which you prefer! Thanks!
  4. Ok here is the exact botanical name for the ash used for this guitar. Fraxinus pennsylvanica (Green ash) Oleaceae (Olive family) The guy got back to me today. Apparently its really quite a rare wood!
  5. hey guys! Its definately ASH believe me!!! Not swamp ash or anything else!!! It was sourced from Goodtimber in Northampton UK and shipped to me here. I bought a total of 3 blanks from the same cut and they all have this kind of marking on them. The grain really is something else eh!!! I'm leaning towareds going with a translucent blue at this stage really highly polished with the headstock done in the same way.. Incidentally anyone that wants one of the blanks I have is welcome to make an offer as I only need the two of them! The blanks are big enough to do a seven string UV each. Just call it $40 US plus shipping. Anyone interested let me know. Thanks for the comments by the way and I have emailed Goodtimber to find out exactly which strain of ash this is! Soon as I know I'll post pics and info! Cheers
  6. Well here is where I'm at so far... Its a seven string beast!! Obviously there is still a lot of work to do but its beginning to come together... This is an ASH 1 piece body with a neck based on an RG 7620 I had. ( Ignore the Jem DB7 fretboard thats for something completely different! ) So far I have an Edge Pro trem for it along with the nut and tuners will come from a UV777. i cant decide if I should swirl it or use the existing grain and do a translucent thing???? Anyways any suggestions or ideas would be much appreciated! Thanks guys!
  7. I was just wondering where everyone gets there bits for Dremels? Living in Oz everyone that sells them seems mighty expensive so I was curious to see if there is anywhere online that can provide them? Or if anyone here uses a certain person / company?
  8. hey goat thats a really nice job! Would have made a great tutorial too! Are you thinking of doing another? And if so ask Brian if it can be included as a tut!
  9. This is a really nice jem and not a bad price if you can get it cheap! http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...2&category=2384
  10. Christ guys you gave me a heart attack!!! I thought my bro Matia had made a new post... which would be a bit hard to do given the circumstances! Didnt realise this place keeps posts from that long ago still online!! You guys made me smile! Sorry just ignore me as Matia says... i'm happy in my own world! haha!
  11. I have got to say thats a really nice guitar! Well Done daveq the lines and reverse headstock work so well! Top effort mate!
  12. Thats probably ur best option. I had a jem copy I did that on once... at first I tried the easy way and used filler... not good... still it was my first attempt. in the end I routed a dovetail into the body at the point I made my mistake for extra strength and it worked fine... I'm not sure about just gluing a piece to the existing wood as my fear was the stability issue... so thats why I dovetailed it... I still have the guitar now and its still as strong as an ox... dovetailing maybe overkill but then it worked!!! Maybe use a buscuit router intsted? hope it helps!
  13. Ok so heres the deal i need Necks and plenty of them for a bit of development... all Ibanez necks considered so long as there in fair condition... will pay shippng to australia so have a look around your shops and if you have something let me know... cash waiting! Cheers all.
  14. I used to be a member of the same flying clud as a guy called pete Mcdermot a few years ago in the UK. He won the RC Scale world champs a couple of time in the early 90's but lost all the fingers in his right hand a couple of years back! He did sell me a scale Lancaster bomber mid 90's which I still have. These days i'm using ducted fan models more and more though. Currently building a Harrier scale model with ducted fans... guitars and planes... is there anything else once your married?
  15. hi all i was just wondering if anyone knew of a good Australian timber supplier for building guitars? Like guitar blanks and rock maple that kind of thing? I've been building guitars for a couple of years now but so far never in the land down under so I'm pretty much running blind here... oh yeah and if anyone can get hold of any edge trems ( any make ) I'll also be interested... ( any quantity! ). Thanks a lot guys!
  16. hello, my name is eddie and I am lee's older brother. I just wanted to jump on to say thanks for all the messages and good wishes. lee really loved his guitar building, its something I originally got him into a couple of years back and i know just how much enjoyment and usefullness this site actually gave him. i have been online here myself a couple of times and have to say I think generally it is excellent. lee through so too and I wanted to pass this on to you all. Myself and the whole family have obviously had a really hard time of it lately however I would like to thank everyone, particularly Brian and Cerealk for there wishes. lee had a heck of a lot of respect for you both. I am also currently building a tribute guitar for lee to give me something to remind me of him so I'm sure you may all see me on here again from time to time. I'll be sure to post the pictures as we progress. once again a huge thank you. eddie F
