  1. okay, wow, i got pictures up faster than i thought i would! Here they are. Anyone seen this? anyone know who makes it? i forgot to ask lol. And here's a picture of the entire neck for anyone who's wondering. Its the most comfortable bass neck i've ever played... Oh, i forgot to mention that the nut so far is being made for 4 string bass only >.< But ya, its a fretless, (if you couldn't tell lol) I got to pick out the headstock (it looks A LOT better in person), and ya i do admit that i had it bassed pretty largly off of Ken Lawrence style headstocks. I just love his craftsmenship and designs, and i though to myself "hmmmmmmm do i want a boring pointy thing, a giant ugly fender thing, or a ultra cool custom thing?" Yeah... I'm rambling again. I should stop typing at 3 in the morining. Tell me what you guys think!
  2. I was talking to my dealer guy for all my guitar parts (Ken Francis of former Sonic Designs), and he showed me a picture of the new nut he put on the fretless neck he made me last year, which i sent back to him, cuz he's making me a body to go with it. So that was a nice new surprise So i take a look at this nut, and its got these little things where all the strings go through it. He shows me how you can adjust the height of these things. So the nut has individual saddle screws in it! I thought this was pretty neat ^.^ Cuz now i can have an adjustable bridge height, as well as a nut height, so i can optomize my action, and get the absolute lowest action without worry of after fret buzz, first fret buzz, or any of that stuff! Ken is an awesome person to deal with! If i get time, i'll post the pics he gave me. I was very happy to hear of this news, cuz i really dislike graphite nuts. I asked him for a brass nut, and he popped that up for me He even sent me the brass nut he was going to use on the bass, so i could put it on my f***around guitar that i do all my experiments on (scalloping, refretting, refinishing, logoing, etc.) And right now that guitar is the most comfortable one i've ever played ^.^ First guitar i ever got too. Ibanez GRX20. Right now its got a SD JB in the bridge, and a hotrails in the neck position, both on a 5 way switch... i'm gonna get that fixed >.< Currently, its nonfunctional lol. I don't mind spending 10 bux on a 3 way ^.^ I'll have an extra 5 way left over that i can use if anything else Wow, i'm rambling! Okay, so yeah, i have enough time to type all that crap, but not enough time to post pix... i'll do that... sometime when i can get more sleep >.< Class at 2PM zzzzzzzz... -Chris 2:41AM
  3. Wow Wes! that fretboard is amazing! This is the first time i've seen that kind of touch put on a guitar Is it all on your own, original? And would you mind too terribly much if i did the same thing to my WR7T (in the designing process)?
  4. On second thought, you can have guitar FOR girlfriend. You could get a better chance of gettin some if you write her a song
  5. Well its definately the frets buzzing. I did the paper test So i have to highten my action? guess i'll have to work a lil harder on my fast playing then. Thanks a lot!
  6. M'kay i donno how to describe this. K, there's a buzz on my bass while i play, but its not from the action being too low, or the neck not being straight or anything like that. everything on that end is alllllll set. but you know when you fret, and you pick the string? Well the buzz is coming from the side of the string that you don't pick. Like, *thinks of how to explain it* Okay, lets call your finger a point on the string -------------------O---------------- And your headstock is on the left side, while the bridge is on the right. The fretbuzz is coming from the left side, and is driving me insane while i play >.< I can't hear it in the amplifier, but it just bugs the living crap out of me. Any Ideas on what to do? I'm thinking of shimming the nut.
  7. Actually, i think he's talking about everyone knowing how to play Iron Man, Paranoid, and a few others.
  8. Great news ^.^ I love guitar recovery events! They really brighten up my day
  9. I can't help you with this one, but what i can tell you is that the only stupid question is the one that goes unasked... Well there are stupid questions... but hey, i donno what you're talking about, so its gotta have some sophistication to it ^.^; *hides*
  10. Wes, that's turning out awesome o.O I love the giant laminate running down the middle of the neck (i hope that's what it is...)
  11. Well sir, it could be a combination of things. Here's a few things to check: Are your knife edges on the floyd sharpened? Are your trem posts worn? Are your strings properly stretched? Is your nut properly locked? Does your nut have grooves in it from excessive locking on the strings? This could cause the strings to slip through. Your spring tension shouldn't be what's causing the problems. Spring tension will only make your floyd level, or unlevel, and if your knife edges are sharpened, it should always return to point "zero". Hope that helps ^.^ Chris
  12. Doh! Well you know what i meant lol. Actually, i do have the means necessary*sp* to make dicast tuners out of a variety of different metals here. I can choose how i quench them, I can have the option of powder coating, chrome plating, or just plain anealing my metals ^.^ I don't think i'll be able to do the gear ratios properly though >.o Ratios and fractions never were my strong points.
  13. Oh, well when i finish my guitar and i'm playing it, or others are checking it out, i want to be able to say that i'd done everything myself from a blank slab of unleveled wood ^.^
  14. you can take some glue and sawdust to fix the missing wood pieces i think.
  15. You probably already know this, but you may have to shim up your nut, or get a new one.
  16. Treehugger! j/k. Good words for all to remember, even myself. Anywho, i have a thickness plainer. Forgot what it was called though. I was gonna call it a leveler >.o But yeah we definately have one of those here.
  17. Thank you guys for the website on the exotic woods! What exactly does Larry do to the wood? I'd like to be able to start from just a blank slab if possible ^.^ Do you think he would send it to me without finishing, or leveling it, if i asked?
  18. I always liked those Erogodyne basses that Ibanez makes. Aren't they made from some type of synthetic material specially made to meet tonal requirements without worrying any hippies?
  19. Well i'm just a beginner here >.< I didn't know HomeDepot sucked. Well their prices suck >.o I went there to buy sandpaper, and it was like 6 or 7 bux for a 3 sheets of assorted. I went to Ace Hardware later on and got every grit sandpaper mentioned in the scalloping tutorial, and a 5/8 inch file for 8 bux! Anywho, i went ahead and asked for a block of Ebony, and they told me to search for porn elseware j/k
  20. Listen to Grip Inc. - Bug Juice Tell me that that song would sound just plain spanish without the drums in there to add a metal touch, please?
  21. That's a form of a pinch harmonic. The name pinch harmonic comes from playing with your fingers. Try holding your thumb lightly on the string, and then picking with your index finger. Its kind of a pinching motion, isn't it? Well its basicly the same thing in this case, only on bass I've been playing with that one for a while. Sounds awesome on a fretless bass, because you can slide it up or down the neck!
  22. T'wasn't a meat slicer my friend. It was some kinda weird clampy machine that came down and stamped things, and it turned out that when he put whatever part in that was being stamped, his fingertips were still in the way, and his natural reaction was to pull away, thereby ripping off the fingertips of his middle and ring fingers on his right (fretting) hand.
  23. I went to Home depot reciently, and asked if they sold Mahogany... and i'm probably spelling it wrong. Anyway, when i asked, they said that Mahogany was becoming an endangered tree because its being used so much, and that by selling it, Home Depot would become a tree hugger's protest area for lack of better words. Soooooooooooo what's up with that? I really want to build my WR1 out of Mahogany without breaking any laws [edit] i'll rephrase just in case. Its difficult to obtain without any trouble. Probably not illegal.
  24. According to Iommi, black sabbath had always considered themselves to be "Hard Rock"
