  1. FWIW, that link worked fine last night.
  2. my third project , which im doing at the moment(fretless bass) will definitely have a name on the headstock and a Date of Birth or serial no. on the back so im thinking of the name JODA , because my full name is John Davey. I just pick the first two letter of my forename and surname and hey presto! Does JODA sound ok? any ideas? John.
  3. amazing work dude! fabulicious!
  4. hi there, a friend of mine wants to upgrade the pickups in his MIM fender powerhouse strat deluxe. Now i know it is active, but presumeably its just a pre-amp(mid booster) and passive pickups(noiseless?). so bearing this in mind can you reccomend a decent set of pickups(sub $200) that would make a decent improvement in tone and give him more bite ? i was thinking fender lace sensors, but i dont know much about them, any opinions? thanks, John.
  5. i drive a 993cc suzuki cultus 5-speed. you dont know the meaning of crappy until youve driven one for 3 years....... help!

    feedback

how do i get that lovely sustaining feedback from my guitar. bear in mind ive only tried in on my h-s-s squier with a practice amp but each time i do, well lest just say the amp has to be VERY LOUD!! (which causes microphonic feedback). If you dont know what i mean listen to the start of animal by def leppard and you`ll get my drift. any hints/tips? p.s please bear in mind also that i am a crap guitar player. thanks. john.
  8. to be honest, that sounds laughable. the only marine ply ive ever seen is soft ugly rough crap. hope that helps. john.

    Def Leppard

yeah photograph kicks but! but my fave is probably animal or hysteria or love bites (the more commercial sounding ones) rock on
  10. very nice indeed, is sapele anything like mahogany? the reason is, i have been using a supply of african mahogany for a while, but it looks exactly like the sapele in those pictures, do i have sapele? hmmm... good job hyunsu!
  11. is it a solid g or a wound g ? because from my limited experience, a solid g(say a set of nines or tens) is an absolute disaster to get right, unless you have really high ratio tuners. what method did you use to intonate it btw?
  12. i`d like to help, only problem is , im probably not good enough.... and i live in ireland. which is kinda across the atlantic ocean from most of you guys!
  13. and you cant forget pino palladino .........
  14. Just started getting into def leppard, i bought "vault". Man that is one slick album... they rock! any other fans here?
  15. Any one know if it would be possible/practical to have a mix of active and passive pickups in one guitar? i was thinking of an active humbucker in the bridge of my strat but dont want to have to upgrade the two singles. i realise that they would require different value pots... any way around it? thanks.
  16. im currently in the process of building a fretless 4-string with an ebony board... man that stuff is hard as nails! .. is it really neccesary to epoxy the board, or is the ebony tough enough as it is?( i use roundwound strings ) thanks and merry christmas, john.
  17. oops, forgot the link.... here it is! www.langcaster.com
  18. here`s some kauri (swamp kauri) guitars , and its a beautiul looking wood! if a guitar looked that good i would`nt care what it sounded like
  19. any should do really, once the grain of all the laminates is arranged as to oppose any twist that may occur.
  20. i think figure and quilt are defects in the straightness of the grain caused by length-wise compression, thats my 2 cent.
  21. as far as i know, a lot of chinese squires use agathis.
  22. indeed, im gonna look into the painting idea, as i hav enever done any inlaying before. thanks for the reply. John.
  23. completely from scratch, doing my third at the moment.
  24. now, i wanna make one. Im dead willing to put in the effort... and seeing as it would be a slow process , money would`nt be such an issue. hmm.. really tempted. if i started one it would be my fourth axe, is that too early too start in your opinions? john.
  25. I want to put fret marker lines on the fretless bass im building. I only want them to be on the top edge of the fretboard, to maintain the clean look of the blank fretboard. what way would you recommend i do this? should i cut the slot with my fret-saw and find some material around the same thicknes, say .020" ? could these be painted on with careful masking? seeing as the back and sides of the neck will be lacquered, they paint would be protected. any ideas? thanks, John.
