  1. Its actually not left handed, thats just the back. The front i posted after of the quilted maple top. Its just overall the most high end guitar ive made. black limba body, super quilted top (expensive, and rare to find wide enough for an explorer) Wenge and flame maple neck. Ive never used all these in one guitar.
  2. Thanks man! Ive loved working with this stuff. Here is another one added to the que. It has actually been my main focus of builds but i havent had much time. Finally got the body routed to shape, beveled and the neck fretted and carved today. This one is the highest speced guitar ive ever made.
  3. I sounds and feels great so far. I should have bought more of it. They had enough for probably 4 bodies. And now that shop, the only one in albuquerque that sells exotic woods is going out of business.
  4. Dont forget the part about forgetting to wear a dusk mask while using an angle grinder to carve the top, and blowing out orange snot for 27 hours. As well as looking like an umpa loompa from the orange dust sticking to you. The body wood was the best paduak ive ever worked with. It is 100% quartersawn and carved and sanded the best out of any wood ive ever used. The neck had a little bit different grain patter, but was still nice to work with.
  5. Even here black limba is hard to find. It comes in spurts. Yup, 100% paduak. I strung it up last night for a test run. Feels great.
  6. Just a little update. I finally got the Paduak SS sanded and a few coats of oil on it. Darkened up a lot, but is looking really organic.
  7. Greetings! Hope all is well. The weather is warming up here and it makes for much more enjoyable build environments. I finally got around to gluing this up and cutting it out. Been wanting to do this combo for years!
  8. Yeah, the pic of the rhoads had a filter on it, that is built into my camera. Sometimes the sunlight washes out the picture instead of showing the grain, so sometimes i use it to enhance the grain.
  9. I really gotta stop starting so many projects without finishing them. But here are some updates! Ive gotten into the really bad habit of buying a bunch of wood and supplies and not using what i already have.
  10. Its actually just regular maple burl. I actually didnt want to rout it because of how nice it looked, so i just left it unfinished for now.
  11. A few of the projects here. Ive let them back up way too much.
  12. LMI carries Rocklite now. I ordered one for a guitar i was making last month. They ended up sending me 2 orders on accident, so i just paid for it and kept them both. Its almost impossible to tell the difference from ebony at certain angles, aside from the grain being immaculately uniform. In every way looks like the highest end ebony. Really hard, stiff and holds the frets great.
  13. That is a great looking V Design. where did you get the black limba?
  14. Just the lighting, good sir. The quilt is pretty much solid white in person.
  15. Thanks man. Been a crazy year over all. A lot of change and a lot of learning to do. Went almost 2 weeks without a day off. Had the morning off today so i got a few things done. Ive just been building bodies and doing minor work on almost finished builds.
  16. It would be better to plane the body down 5/16" and then add the top to it.
  17. Hope all is well with you. Ive been incredibly busy with my new job and other life stuff. Some good, some difficult. I usually only have a few hours of free time on my days off. But just thought i'd share the couple of things ive done on my days off the past couple months.
  18. Ive always blown my table off with the air compressor anytime there are chips or sawdust on it to prevent it from getting dented or marred.
  19. Good question! But scott was right, she doesnt want to use it as a cutting board after all, haha.
  20. Well friends, The time has come. I start my new job on tuesday. I dont know what my hours are going to be yet. Its been a great journey. If i can, i will still work a little on guitars during the week. As a farewell, i made my mom this cutting board out of offcuts from necks i had made.
  21. Been incredibly busy lately. Just got back from a week long trip to NY. Here are a few pics of recent progress. I also have been clearing out my stock. I have 10 laminated neck blanks if anybody is interested.
  22. Great looking guitar. Its similar to what i would build.
  23. The prices at the place i used to go to had been almost the same for nearly 11 years. As soon as they were bought out, it doubled. Quite a shame.
  24. Thanks guys. My hope is to still build one day a week. I dont start this job until next month, so that leaves some time to finish up a bunch of projects. An interesting note, I went to go get some mahogany from my supplier. At the beginning of the year they got bought out by a big business. Their prices had went up a bit but was still managable. I went back today for the first time in about 7 months, and their prices have just about DOUBLED. I was blown away. One thing that really helped me with my building was living in a place where supplies were very manageable and cheap. Its really too bad.
