  1. are you going to be using the body out of that saga kit for anything? If you just plan on using the Oak you purchased...I'd be happy to make you an offer for that blank
  2. Wes I believe the "it" in how much did it cost referred to the woods in the neck. Antecedants!
  3. You can just scroll up a little bit and look at the Pinned "Building My Neck Thru Guitar" by westheman. He uses bocote binding on his fingerboard. Ask wes how he did it
  4. Thanks! Also, the angled pickguard, how is that done?
  5. Bendetto? Who is he and where can I find a copy? I tried a search on Amazon, but that didn't cut it. Thanks! Mitch
  6. Sorry for posting this in the wrong spot. We're looking to build something kinda like this.
  7. We're going to be making a hollowbody archtop guitar similar to the Gibson Classic models for a potential customer. The big question about doing it is this: What is the BEST and most efficient way of arching the top. If it were solid, I would definately use a cove router bit and carve the top, but considering the hollowbody part of it, I'm not so sure this wouldnt be a total waste of good wood. If perhaps there is a way to accurately bend a 1/4" top or perhaps something else, I would LOVE to know, as this is very important. Thanks, Mitch - MKG
  8. Sorry for the delay. It's $300 o.b.o. The stickers are mutilated from being removed, so no, sorry
  9. Thanks a lot Southpa, that was perfect! Exactly what i was looking for.
  10. I would use wenge, I love wenge. I love the tone and feel of it. To a certain extent you can do however many laminates you want. I think I saw and alembic with a nine piece neck. I think most of their necks are 7 pc. Here you go. 11 pieces. Hope that tells ya
  11. Iceman I could definately do that. PM with what you want/how much and I'll see what the cost would be.
  12. I need to build a set neck guitar. I was just wondering if it's basically the same thing as bolt on, except you glue instead of bolts. CORRECT ME PLEASE IF IM WRONG!
  13. I work at Sears, in the hardware, so naturally i get all the good deals. Yesterday I purchased: 1 Can gloss Black Krylon Spray Paint 1 Can Minwax Gloss Clear Polyurethane 1 Can Krylon Gloss Clear Coat 1 Can Krylon Neon Yellow Spray 1 Can (dont remember the brand) metallic GOLD, it actually looks like gold. The catch $8 for all of it Ah the joys of a nice job.
  14. Used Ibanez RG for sale. This is my friends guitar that I offered to help him sell. Has tremolo & locking nut. Comes with case and straplocks. The case has a big dent in it. But other than that it is fine. The guitar is flawless except for the volume pot which may need replacement (Theres a crack) and the screws on the nut are somewhat stripped. Here are some pics, the Biohazard stickers have been removed. PM me or email @ scattergnomes@aol.com if you're interested.
  15. Use a heat gun, it takes it right off. Ace, I understand what you mean. No offense taken. You don't HAVE to put vibrato on anything. The main reason that vibrato is consistant of every note is because that is the way it is done on classical instruments (all fretless). You just have to play it enough to know where you want to land your notes. Sometimes its nice to intentioally pull something sharp or flat. And vibrato i can really only see as being really difficult on a few chords (any involving all 4 fingers)
  16. So you painted the reflective stuff black (or is that just an illusion?)? Does it still reflect just as well?
  17. The neck width on the bass I'm working on right now is 1" at the heel, and 7/16" at the nut. It averages about 3/4" though. As a personal preference I like my necks really thin, with a wide flat spot on the back.
  18. StewMac has some nice looking PlanetWaves locking tuners with an 18:1 gear ratio. I don't have any experience with them, but you might want to look into it.
  19. Gorilla glue is polyurethane based. It works on moisture in the wood to bond...so I guess that it would work better for an oily wood than Titebond I.
  20. i guess it depends on the bass player...i play chords all the time As far as pressing goes, well, i think you guitar players just need to toughen up a bit
  21. NO SOAP BAR THAT WAS MY IDEA. But yeah, i voted neckthru. I'm not entirely sure why but I've always liked them better. As a bass player, I notice most neckthru basses tend to have a lot more sustain, and each note seems to have a little more individual presence. Then again, whether or not you should do neckthru for guitar depends on what kind of sound you want to create. ESPECIALLY with your woods. What ARE the woods?
  22. I was at ACE Hardware the other day and I picked up a couple of these nifty things called Trim Screws. They're 1 1/4" long and actually come with a ferrule type thing. I put 5 of them into my bass to mount the neck and it works fine, they're about 1/8 - 3/16" wide. $.50 a piece so not bad.
