  1. Do you have any suggestions paint wise?
  2. I love that. I actually like V's though they aren't my style. But this variation on it is just amazing in my opinion. The curves get me. And those smiley faces are awesome too!
  3. I was wondering about white P-90 covers. I saw them on the Bare Knuckles site, otherwise the possibility never would have occurred to me. I was wondering if anybody knew where these covers could be purchased, because white pickups would go much better with the build I'm planning. If anybody knows where these can be purchased in either normal format or dogear format, I would love to hear it. I think they would look much better than cream with the guitar I have planned. If anybody can , I would be much obliged.
  4. I'll keep you guys posted as soon as we start. The first step is building our porototype out of poplar my friend had lying around, and I'll take a picture and get feedback on how we can improve it. But that might be just a little while, because I have to do it on a weekend with my friend who has the tools, and on weekends currently my band is practicing for a gig that's coming up. But after September 15, I have nothing stopping me, because I'm dropping out of the soccer league I was gonig to join.
  5. But they have a $100 minimum order? Gilmerwood that is. Find a board from them, PM me and I'll place it with one of my orders and give it to Jon for slotting if you want. Then he can send to you and you pay for everything concerning your board to Jon and he'll repay me for the board and shipping. BTW, They don't have any Tulipwood listed at this time that I could find. MK Thanks a lot. Once I find the wood from them I'll tell you. I can't wait to build this baby. =)
  6. The forum said my email address was banned when I tried to register!
  7. I'm actually surprised by that. It would seem so wouldn't it? What are the dimensions you need from me to make a fretboard?
  8. Is there anybody that I could buy a pre-slotted Tulipwood fretboard from? Or does anyone know where such a thing could be bought? Thanks.
  9. I love P90s too !! I have found that the original Gibson P90s (the modern ones) are quite good for general use, and specially on the neck position. Duncan SP90-1 would be pretty similar to these. Alnico 5, 8K range. But for the bridge position I prefer something with more wire in it. And that is what I would suggest for a Jr. type instrument. The BK P93 seem to be in the ballpark. I haven't tried them, but their humbuckers are really good. I have been told that Lollars are a little too well behaved, which is not what I would want in a P90. These days I'm using P90s in two of my guitars (SG Standard converted, and BlackBeauty 54RI): for the neck positions I use the stock Gibson, and for the bridge position I had some made to my specs (10K, A5) by an independent winder, member of The Les Paul Forum, by the nick Zhangliqun. These P90s he made for me are all that I wanted and more, and they are ver affordable. I would suggest that you look him up there. Don't be fooled by the low prices, he winds GREAT pickups. I'll check him out. More forums to register for! Oh joy!
  10. Yes, those looked really good when I checked them out, but those are really expensive aren't they? Like $140 for one?
  11. My guitar instructor told me about them. They do seem great. And they aren't really that expensive compared to other custom pickups are they?
  12. I'm sure they'll sound great. And they're less expensive than Bare Knuckles which were one of my choices, so that's good. EDIT: If the body was thinner, a sparkle finish might look kind of cool.
  13. That guitar is looking very cool. I agree that it will look best in a natural finish, semi-hollows and hollowbody always look better with natural finishes in my opinion. (Except for the Gretsch White Falcon and the Bono Irish Falcon, because those are special. =) ) All of those wood selections sound great too. What are your opinions on Lollar P-90s? I'm thinking of using them for the build I'm planning right now.
  14. If I can't find any of this Tulipwood, I might as well go for that.
  15. I don't know the standard width, but this guide might interest you: http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.ph...=18734&st=0
  16. Those sound great. Does anyone know about Jason Lollar's pickups? http://lollarguitars.com/Pickups.htm
  17. +1 on what Chris has said. Pink eye is a wonderful work of nature but without good woodworking skills will only be a problem and a tragedy to the wood and your hard earned dollars. If you decide to move forward with it, then take it very slow and practice on at least something like ebony(still expensive but not so much), Boisd'arc (spelling, very hard, cheap wood) Practice , practice , practice. Good luck, MK The main reason I wanted to use pink ivory is because I am making an SG with a very light pink body and a pearloid pickguard, and I was going to repeat the pink and pearl finish on the fretboard. After hearing your advice, and after thinking about it, I agree to hold off on it. I think along with your reasons that it is such a beautiful wood, it belongs with a naturally finished body, where the whole thing can be naturally beautiful. I saw a bass once that some guy did using pink ivory. I'll post it here: http://www.alembic.com/info/FC_duo.html Anyways, can either of you (or anyone else), think of a wood I could use that would go well with the pink and pearl body? I'm going to paint the neck white, and probably use MoP Les Paul Deluxe inlays, but I could always change it. Anthing that would look good with that? As someothers have stated my next choice would be tulipwood as well. MK I really really like that Tulipwood. It's beautiful. That's what I'm going to use for sure. But does anyone know where you can get it in the right size? And preferably already slotted?
  18. I'd try it, but I prefer the completely natural look. Thanks a lot for the suggestion jmrents. That tulipwood looks beautiful. Do you know where I could buy a pre-slotted tulipwood fretboard? And of course I'll kep you all posted on the porgress. I jsut have to decide on the kind of P-90 I'm going to use, but no one has really posted in the thread I made about that so far. Any opinions on what kind of P-90 to use?

  20. That was the first one I was really considering, but I wanted to hear opinions first. Great avatar by the way.
  21. I was interested in using a pink ivory fretboard for my first guitar, and I was wondering if anybody knew anything about the wood, and how it plays.
  22. I am starting to make an SG Junior, with just the 1 bridge P-90, and I was wondering what you guys thought was the best kind of P-90. You all have experience, and plenty of opinion, so let me have it: What is the best? My musical preferences (I don't want to sound like a specific artist, but it gives you an idea of sounds that I like): U2 Green Day Stone Temple Pilots Velvet Revolver The Arctic Monkeys Matchbox Twenty The Black Keys Elvis Presley Elvis Costello The White Stripes The Beatles The Strokes The Police and more... Basically what I'm saying is that's the stuff I prefer, and I do not like metal AT ALL. So anyways, what would be the best for me?
  23. Thanks! Any tips on getting the horns just right?
  24. Yeah, that was what I thought. There was a site that had a CAD download of an SG, and I wasn't sure if I had to use I different file, or if the typical SG one would work. Now on a different note, how do you make the slant on the edges of an SG? I don't know how better to describe them, but I'm sure you know what I mean.
