  1. this is nt a lp-this is a ltd viper build. the wood came with a lp drawing on it. here is a pic: http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee242/sbmann/sgs.jpg it will be mohagany neck and body, with a slightly figure top and a snakewood fretboard-finish will be a tobacco burst with black and gold hardware. the reason for it being a 3 piece is for better sound. i know it is debatable-but-when you make a 2 piece there is glue in the center-and with a 3 iece there isn't. so on this build im going to see if the sound will differ at all
  2. I have my wood-the guitar has begun now here are some pictures of whats going on http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee242/sbmann/S6300443.jpg the wood http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee242/sbmann/S6300444.jpg straghtening the edges http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee242/sbmann/S6300447.jpg cutting the wings http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee242/sbmann/S6300448.jpg glueing the pieces together http://i232.photobucket.com/albums/ee242/sbmann/S6300449.jpg cutting out the template
  3. thats a damn nice neck.....damn nice!
  4. I just got my wood in today! It's looking beauty ! 3 2/16 X 1 13/16 X 30 inches- mohagany. there is two of them....sooooooo, in was wondering if there was enough to make 2 necks-deep tenon. i also got my body wood as well. its mohagany too.
  5. a wee bit off topic but back to the wylde guitar.....it would look really cool to spray over the initial design with an opaque black-it would be a two-tone bullseye-taking away the normal tacky design and dressing it up for a fancy party. more specificaly-the difference from regular black would be slight and only really noticed by people like us.....on with the initial topic!
  6. Ok, I'm done with this thread-all I was looking for was information on parts-thank you everyone that post specific information that was relevent to exactly what I asked, especially you DRAK Anyone that isn't afraid of making mistakes can pm me if this project intrigues you.
  7. That's the spirit. Having said that it might be that you could build a less ambitious amp and find the tone you want there... then work out how to record it and patch it through a great big slave.... What music has impressed you with sounds you like? S. I really like the gilmour sound. My insperation comes from the amp that page rewired and doubled its wattage. But i don't really like the page sound.
  8. Based on your questions, I am assuming you don't have any experience with electronics. Building an amp, even from a kit with instructions, requires some basic electronics and soldering skills at a bare minimum. And you're dealing with lethal voltages that can easily take you out permanently if you aren't extremely careful. You need more than patience - you need knowledge... if you're willing to spend a lot of time to learn it, ok. But amp design/building is not something you can just jump into without a clue. I do have electronics experience-why would i even be interested in making an amp if i didn't even know what a soldering iron was. Most likely I'm wrong, but it seems that you are getting not only fustrated, but as well as, insulted by my wanting to make an amplifier that is higher than other peoples capabilities. Furthermore, if you aren't aswering the question/ posting usefull information; then please don't post at all. No offence is meant, but i don't have time to read a post of someone being so negative to my wants----yayayaya i know that I must sound really selfish by continously writing WANT
  9. Something like you described is way beyond anything a DIY-er could manage, especially a first-timer. For what you described, the Hughes & Kettner Switchblade would fit the bill. If you really want to build a "big" classic tube amp, check out Metroamp. But built-in echo/reverb/chorus are not something you'll find in a DIY tube amp kit, anywhere. I never said that i wanted a kit, this post is to help me understand what I will need. Just because someone is new to something doesn't mean that he doesn't have the potential of making exactly what he wants. Like wes said, it takes patience-and thats what I have.
  10. I am sure the counter could keep up. I think the problem is the magnet on the shaft pulley. It's not strong enough to trip the switch on a faster pass. I ditched the foot switch from the sewing machine and I am now using a sliding dimmer switch. This give me allot more accuracy over the speed so now I am up to 220 rpm (so 45 mins for 10k winds). I think I will leave it for now, since I am new to this whole winding thing. Once I am more comfortable with it, then I'll likely want to speed things up. sb - I will get working on those plans for you as soon as I can. What format would you like? I can do them in Autocad or Sketchup. Thanks, STV. I'm so sorry that I didn't reply to your question before----autocad would be great if your still up to it....sorry
  11. Thank you for your reply: I want to do a complicated amp-not a small amp. i don't have the time or money to build a small amp then build what i wanted to build in the first place. I know this way of thinking is a bit ignorant. what i so far: 100w tube amp-with tape echo, reverb, and chorus flange-with 3 customizable presets similiar to this http://line6.com/spideriii/hd150.html.-the speaker is going to be celestion...any thoughts-----master volume, drive, bass, mid, treble, and channel volume. It's stupid, but, I want them all to go to ereven (11). I want it to be complicated-furthermore, I want an amp that is so good that I never need another one.
  12. That was funny-wes takes a shot and drak was the only one that actually gave me info. Wasn't there a thread about someting like this...... Remember how I said I don't know what I want?...I wrote the post while I was really tired, so I'm sorry that I misspelled build with a different letter-that by the way, another letter that is right above B----G. I was hoping that I would get a better understanding of the way an amp works-not a grammar lesson. But, that doesn't matter-Drak gave me some info. Drak, I wouldn't mind building a large amp-maybe around 100w-----or even a head, and later on a cabinet. Maybe something with tubes. thank you for link.....
  13. Can someone list the parts that are necessary to guild(build) an amp? Please bear with me-I don't know what I want so.....If you want to list parts for a complicated build goahead, if all you know is basic psrts then don't hesitate.
  14. i looked them up- and the cheap ones i found on ebay are minimum $40, but the gold is satin and looks kinda crapy. the gold one I'm looking for is about 118 at stewmac and universal jems sell all six for 115.....bingo! BUT!-if anyone has found where to buy the gold saddles for the wilkinson/gotoh tremolo---just the saddles--- please post the info.
  15. sorry to bother you again-but im looking for a set in gold and i cant find it anywhere
  16. this is a topic to help not only me but anyone else making their own pickups. Anyone who knows of a site that lists well known pickup brands' windings, please post a link. http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tools/Special_...65.html#details near the bottom in the chart
  17. ....I've got the wood now and i wanted to put single string bridges on the guitar-but-i can't find them. I will keep looking for them but until then I was wondering if anyone has any input on an alternative bridge.....tremelo-fixed-string thru-floyd....
  18. get over yourself! you aren't as good as you think you are! you try to act tough by "calling out" a fellow guitar builder-then-you critisize other peoples grammar? you think that you are some kind of luthier worthy of world wide recognition (you never said you are but you certainly act like you do). this is suposed to be an informational forum and you are trying to turn it into a place of ridicule and insults. i know im getting worked up too much but im sick of seeing your bogus remarks and comments. just get back to building and forget this-you got your 1.5 seconds of "fame", now drop it-go outside and get some air.
  19. hey, when building my first guitar-I was very displeased about my paint jobs- every time i used 80 grit sandpaper till i saw a bit of grain then continued with 220. This worked perfectly for me. BTW I live in toronto-by don mills and finch
  20. thank you for the offer i would love the plans
  21. common guys-does anybody even own a esp viper?
