  1. I like walnut personally. About the oak, I read somewhere (MIMF I think) that there were acids in the wood that would eat away at metal (i.e. the truss rod). I am not sure about that, though.
  2. Thats the thickness of the wood. Wood thickness is measured by quarters of an inch. Therefore, 4/4 would be 1 inch thick (actually a bit less due to planing) and 8/4 would be 2 inch thick.
  3. http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?View...&sort=3&rows=25 Great seller.
  4. The tuning sucks on them, too. I did a slight vibrato with the tremolo bar and all the string were out of tune.
  5. Step One: Get rid of that avatar. Step Two: Check out the Musical Instrument Makers Forum (www.mimf.com), sign up, and search the Library. When you are logged in, the Library is the first selection in the links at the bottom of the page. Don't just sign up and ask how to wind pickups, because they will only tell you to check the Library. The Library has a WEALTH of information. P.S. There is no way we could fully (or even close to) explain the process of winding pickups here. You will learn much by checking out MIMF's Library.
  6. You can pay for the MIMF plans via personal check or money order if I am not mistaken. You just have to wait until your check gets there to make sure it doesn't bounce.
  7. Ya, but then you still have a piece of plastic on your guitar.
  8. Hmmm... If you were to laminate multiple layers of veneer together, alternating grain direction, and make a pickguard out of it, I bet it wouldn't have the stability issues that a single thin piece of wood made into a pickguard would.
  9. Could you perhaps post pictures?
  10. Why were you sanding? Were you refinishing?
  11. Wes: Thanks for the offer but I'm looking for something a bit more radical. I will keep you in mind if I change my mind. What model M is it? bowser: I was looking at diagrams like that but there something about having the actual body in front of you.
  12. I'm looking for an Ibanez RG body. 7-string or 6-string. Broken, new, it doesnt matter. I want something that I can make a body template out of. I'll also consider any other type of guitar body except strats or teles. Thanks.
  13. Why did it have to be 1 cm deep? You should have just made it about 3-4mm.
  14. Someone should definately pin this thread.
  15. I've found that good plumber's solder is pretty well suited for inlays. The stuff I used contains tin and copper. Seems to stay shiny well. I haven't put any type of finish over it so I can't tell you how unstable it might be with some finishes.
  16. Whats the headstock on this thing gonna look like?
  17. I would go with an LMI double expanding truss rod. Cheaper and you can use a standard 3/8" bit.
  18. I've heard pretty good things about the Saga kits on this forum.
  19. I think I want you to build me a custom bass Hyunsu. What kind of pickup are you going to use?
  20. I might be interested in some of your personal collection. I will be going to college next year to study music (hopefully bass) and I need an upgrade.
