  1. if its a strat then you take the smallest allen brench you can find and turn those little screws on the saddles to the height you want (clockwise to lower strings, counter to raise). if its a floyd rose, then your introuble. you either have to take it off and route a recces for it to lower it. or you have to put angled shims in the neck pocket (of its a bolt on) to give the neck some angle in the future though specify the type of guitart and the hardware that is involved (in this cas the bridge)
  2. also san jose area, bascially basically since if i move across the street im back in my home town. the reason im asking is where did you find a luthier to help you with your guitars since i cant seem to find one around here besides in somewhere in marin county, but he is only acoustic and my dad is not gonna drive me for an hour to see him. and there are literally hundreds of quakes a month in the bay area none of which anybody can feel and or care about, mostly along local fault cracks, the bigs ones happen genrally along the san andreas fault itself
  3. i think you would a lot better responces in the electronics forum, since the electronic junkies hang out there i know the technical aspect of series and paralel switches, one switch sets the pickups in a series connected on the same wire -----pickup1------pickup2------ and the other parallel where the pickups are parallel |--------pickup 1--------| ---| |----------- |--------pickup2---------| i dont know how this affects tone, but im guessing that in a series anything that affects the first pickup affects the output from the second pickup and in a parrallel circuit it bleeds together more unifromaly, and you can control the amount of bleeding
  4. well first of all i was 12 at the time. and it was for free. i needed to get the trailer into a very tight garage (tight meaning small clearance in the garage and out side the doors). full of camping equipment for the month long camping trip that we where going on in a couple days
  5. a hamer slammer (cheap strat knockoff with hamer slapped on it) a Yamaha Clasical and a Suzuki classical (would you beleive)
  6. i doubt anybody is interested in the progress of this guitar, but i did make some prgress in the past 2-3 weeks. 1 i rounded over the guitar body, turned out that my borrowed roundover bit had a bearing that was to small, now i have this nice bevel that i have to sand/plane out 2. i made my own truss rod cover, since my recces was really ugly, it turned out pretty nice, 3. i made my own trem spring cavity cover, from some extra zebrawood. and reccesed it so that it is flush with the body, finally something that im proud of. but now i have a problem 1. how do i drill the holes to mount the trem spring claw, since it is impossible to get there with almost any tool. also i hae some finishing questions, 1. is shelac good for a sanding sealer. and can i paint my color, right over the shelac or should i use a primer. will have some pictures later if anybody is interested, but i doubt it 2. what kind of finish should i put over the color coat. as i hjave no experience with finishing anything, besides staining an ikea foot stool
  7. nevermind ignore this post i reread the topic
  8. seems like a buy it now, so i guess he got his price
  9. try an unstable trailer with 50 liters of natural gas in it. an explosion would not have been fun
  10. i doubt it, it looks like its taped off. maybe it will be a different color, i dont know
  11. its just a lot more work and the benefits are non exsistent, as tyhe 2 dif types of rods function the same and are the same price.
  12. im just saying radioshack because its the most instantly thoguht about, but he shouldnt beworying about shocks in any amp, just let the caps decharge before doing anything. and unplug the chord. then just go in and replace/resolder the jack.
  13. well if this is your first time i would recomend going with a trussrod that doesnt require a curved rout, or a rounded base. second, to answer your question, yes you do need a special jig, unless you are a robot and can without a depth stop frehand route the curve yourself (highly unlikely)
  14. ive noticed that ca takes upwards of 1 minute to settle in wood, and longer to dry. so i dont know how instant it is (not like its effects on plastic and fingertips)
  15. id say the best argument is that the density of the wood affects the vibrations of the strings mechanicaly, by affecting certain overtones differenty. though i have no idea how but i suspect that is the main reason
  16. been there done that, and im only 14 to make it harder, the traler was made crappily, and the car was about $3000.... new
  17. burn a hole thats threaded also, now thats a miracle, I remember from somewhere, that fender made acrylic models of their guitars so that the service reps new what was inside the body.
  18. well if its as simple as a jack socket id recomenmd to do it yourself, just because a "qualified" amp tech might just charge you uip to 50 bucks for an fairly easy job. and replacing it should be cheap to, just check your local radioshack for the jack
  19. just dont just go by reviews, go to a store and check some guitars out and then buy them cheaper online/ebay
  20. 2 guitarist and a bassist, the guy on the far right adn the guy on the far left are guitarists,
  21. pff tornadoes are for losers. they have warnings, as guitar ed says in califronia there are no warnings besides the ever present person syaing there will be a big one within 10 years. plus the funky weather is drving me nuts, last week it was in the low 60's and today its up in the 80's, and then all of april we where hitting record highs that went above 100 wierdest summer ever i think, btw where exactly in the Cali guitar_ed
  22. he seems to be the guy on the left, since in his equpment list it lists a custom explorer which he just finished wait nvm hes the guy on the right since it says he built it himself. so 2 guysin your band have custo explorers, thats just sick
  23. or just rush in with digital cameras! btw as a side note since you are also in the bay area, arent the one day shiping time from lmi simply wonderfull.
  24. but isnt silver like gold a soft metal, so it might bend and warp under the tension exerted by the strings on the bridge and tailpiece.
