  1. not only are they doubtfully only one weekend, but the tuition is in the thousands of dollars,
  2. the emg selects at stewmac are about 24.99 each,. i got 1 yesterday, they seem well constructed, but are 2 conductor wiring (3 wires, 1 ground, 1 both coils, and 1 for the north coil only), they are quite cheap and made in korea, but i dont know how they sound havent finished the guitar yet.
  3. the dots are just holes of the right diamater drilled into the fretboard, and the dot glued in, if you did any research at all this should have been obvious, and i doubt borders carries any guitar books, and if they do the'yre closer to 30 dollars not 10, just call ahead and ask, but i know that amazon sells melvyn hiscocks book (one of the best books to buy), for about 19 dollars instead of the regular 27
  4. and im not trying to discourage him from building or asking questions its just that 90 % of his questions are answered in melvyn hiscocks book, along with many other reputable guitar building booksor on the main pg site or in the forums
  5. it seems you have been thinking about making about 30 guitars so far, and no progress. how about if you just pick a strat which is one of the easiest guitars to make (but far from easy), not worry about custom inlays. and just start it, you have to crawl before you walk. so go start working on a strat and while your aty it pickup a guitar making book, and post progress pics. and for godsakes dont give the grownups another example why our generation is potentially screwed because of the stupididty of teenagers. anyway. you route out the shape that you want in the wood, cut the materials to shape and jsut glue them in. sounds simple huh... well its not [/rant]
  6. actually that looks like enough to build a guitar, of course you will have to compensate sometimes when some specialty tools are required, but it seems more than enough to start and finish the guitar and that it would look good and work good. dremel might come in handy, but plain dot inlays are generaly done with a drill and binding routes can be done with a router, so its up to you, but of course its not required though it would make some jobs easier/faster. though if your doing full fledged inlays(not plain dots), it is an invaluable tool to have, as for the router it should do the job if its small, htough it might take a bit longer then if you had a more powerfull router, but genrally if its more then say 1hp it should be at least adequate (sp ) just my $.02
  7. no good, thats forgery, of course you could always have it say something custom, like your name or some kind of message or personalized logo, but putting the fender logo on a squire neck so that it looks like a fender neck is just plain forgery but any way hello
  8. read this also a good idea to do his quieting the beast wiring modification (here) as a side note i had the exact same thing happening, but i got a new (used) amp and it went away
  9. Cad is a lot better (imho), and you dont need any books, the turbocad available from guitarbuild for free, is quite easy to get used to , took me about 30 minutes and its quite powerfull for a free software, except it lacks in the curve department, they only have bezier curves, witch take some work to get them prefect, if your copying a shape, but its ok if your making your own shape.
  10. hybrid slinkies are fat bottom skinny top, (10-11's in the bass strings, but 9's in the treble), i want the opposite, they're called fat top skinny bottom im just trying out new strings, to see witch ones i like best
  11. i found this it seems close to what you want. but its a five way switch, but you get the coil select idea, though im not entirely sure if the switch is both coils/north coil also http://www5.ocn.ne.jp/%7Edgb/index_e.htm tons of diagrams, under hsh wirring, i think HSH11 is the way you want to go, but both are five way switches, and maybe a more knowledgable user here will be able to explain how the schematic works.
  12. what i think would be easier, to do, is to have the regular three way switch (ala gibson), and have both hums have seperate coil tapping switch so you use only the the coil closer to the middle, or both coils, much easier to wire, and you can use potentiometers with a push/pull dpdt switches built in to do this without crowding the top with switches
  13. i thought you scraped that top drak?, or did you transfer it to another guitar. oh and it looks b-e-a-utifull!
  14. i like it the grain patternt and the color choice make it stand out.
  15. i cant seem to find fat top skinny bottom slinkies anywhere, i know they have them, but nobody caries them
  16. you know what you forgot to do, when you search make sure yu select the beggining and newer, (in the bottom left box), rather then the standard 30 days and newer
  17. i beleive it hapens when in the very begining of the tree, the top is cut/bitten off, am i wrong?
  18. books will only take you so far, its a lot better to get a teacher to guide you, maybe once a week or so because books can explain but they cant help, or answer your questions, and its a lot harder to change latter on when youve realized you've been doing something wrong, then to get it right from the begining. of course there are good guitarists that where self-taught (yngwie malmsteen to name one), but you dont see to many people, to put it simply a lot of people take on the guitar and many of them drop it because they are discouraged, but teachers can help you with the problems that you are having while learning just my $.02
  19. you as*hole, i was thinking of starting this just an hour ago! oh and i think the statement means that you still have the pro and amateur, just they're posted in the same forum
  20. actually i beleive that gorecki and maiden are in the que in front of you
  21. pretty much any place that does woodworking proffesionaly should have it, most would be nice enough to let you use it, or maybe with a small donation to the coffee fund, as long as your not abusing their kindness and coming in every week and using their equipment, there shouldnt be any problems
  22. i seriously doubt that home depot sells quality bookmatched wood, (or at all), its more like to be found at a specialyty, wood craft store, with thin veeners, you rarely have big peieces of bookmatched bood, woo youlkl have to either do it yourself or pay/ask someone to do it. but ost guitar part suppliers sell bookmathced top wood (i beleive
  23. lumber yards, cabinet shops, call the local comunity college and ask for the woodshop department and ask the guy/gal, um furniture makers, local lluthiers, the places are limitless.
