  1. Just picked all this wood out, I wonder what sorts of things I can do with all this? http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa98/lo...ar/guitar09.jpg
  2. Thanks rich, I got some pictures of the wood just now. Underside (no stain or anything) http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa98/lo...ar/guitar07.jpg Top (stain and sealer) http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa98/lo...ar/guitar06.jpg Side view http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa98/lo...ar/guitar05.jpg Rosewood I have http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa98/lo...ar/guitar08.jpg Also, I do really like this wood, and it's free for me.. Plus it is around 7/8" thick so I could get a couple fret boards out of it I also have some pieces with really straight grain on them, which could be better suited as a fretboard than the figured stuff. Dimensions; 36" x 3 3/4" x 7/8" (length x width x thickness)
  3. Would it be better or worse than rosewood for tone.. I have a rosewood fretboard available but it's around $40 or something. I just want to make this cost the least amount for my parents while still being a good guitar. I'll see if I can get a picture of it, but I'm pretty sure it's IPE. Thanks for the help so far guys
  4. hello? anyone wanna help me plz? by the way, the piece I found seems to be quilted with a bit of flame in it too..
  5. Is Brazilian Black Walnut good as a fretboard? I've got a lot sitting around here at my house and I would like to use a nice piece for the fretboard so it wont cost me extra to build this guitar. One thing that might be important is, it's from hardwood flooring, but it's using the real wood still, and I could just cut or plane it so a part from the centre or something like that instead of using just the top.
  6. yeah I haven't edited the first post yet.. I guess I could do that.
  7. Okay got a little work done today. (sorry for the horrible quality, it was taken with my phone).. Template Rough cut http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa98/lo...ar/guitar01.jpg Nice piece of mahogany (not planed yet) http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa98/lo...ar/guitar02.jpg the body wood is all thickness planed and I just have to carve the shape out for the body. Next time I can work on it will probably be Wednesday, so I'll have more for you then. (also, how do I construct 5 piece necks for a neck-thru design?) eg, how thick, wide, and long should it be for a normal 6 string 25.5" scale guitar.
  8. Okay so the thought stuck me tonight.. I'm going to build a guitar using the parts I used for a guitar I made before. The specs are; -Neck-Thru design -5pc neck (maple and black walnut) -mahogany body wings -Purpleheart fretboard -25.5" scale length -24 frets (jumbo) -Black hardware -Schaller tremolo system (floyd rose) -Two humbuckers and a single coil in the middle. -Volume and Tone pots -5 way switch - Most likely the finish will be natural, maybe with a clear coat depending on if I like it without the clear on it. Oh and the shape is going to be of an Ibanez RGT220A prestige. And the reason I'm rebuilding is because I am not satisfied with the one I built last year, hopefully this one will turn out better. Anyways, I'll report tomorrow with whatever I get done. And I'll try to post some pictures of the build progress.
  9. lookin' good so far, keep it goin
  10. great job, I really like the grain on this wood a shame you didn't put in that inlay though, I really liked it. haha, ohwell, maybe I will do something like that next time I build a guitar. Anyways, keep us updated
  11. bumping a really old topic, but very nice sound clip. Nice sounding guitar!
  12. Mostly all of the 7 string guitars on Ibanez are 25.5" scale.. I don't see what would be wrong with this, but then again I've never played a 7 string before.
