  1. There is actually an online quote generator on the website. Read the models page, and go from there PS. You will save a lot of money by going with a set neck. The set neck FEELS the same as a through neck.
  2. Veneering is an art. Its hard to get perfect, especially without experience. Doesnt hurt to try, but I would never veneer without a vacuum press these days.
  3. The veneer would cost you quite a bit. I think that last post is pretty close to the price. If I did this job I'd charge at least $1000. The stripping is no big deal, and the sunburst would be mildly expensive, but the veneer would cost a lot. Adding veneer isn't hard at all if you make the guitar, but adding it to one that's already made would be quite a bit more difficult. If it already has a laminate top, then it'd be a lot easier to do, but since it's painted, I highly doubt that's the case. hmm good point. well how much for just the purple sunburst repaint? $650-850ish
  4. Just updated the website with forty more tops. Lots of flame, quilt and spalt. http://www.ormsbyguitars.com/wood/
  5. I need to update the page, most of those tops have sold, plus I have new ones that need to be put up. Postage rates are exactly as listed on the page.
  6. Yes, but they get VERY hot. I tested it to the extreme once... it split a two piece body.
  7. My spray booth has a room off the side which will be the heat box. I just have to finish it, an then the room I use now will become the timber storage room instead.
  8. Do it all the time. There are four lamps, which face in different directions, and the heat from those lamps also bounces off the metal walls of this shed/room. I turn them on an hour before I start sanding. Ambient temperature is on average 12-15 degrees higher than the outside temperature. The lacquer (all types) dries faster, harder, with less long term sink back.
  9. From wayne guitars? The Ormbsy GOMD would be my preference but nevertheless, this one is real nice. Whats an Ormbsy GOMD
  10. Hey Wes, they'll have a new one to start copying soon, the westhebeast
  11. Nah, there have been four that Ive seen which are near identical, but this is nothing like it. They are all copying the Shark now...
  12. Dreams are great, but the reality is you are going to need a couple hundred thousand dollars to get this 'fairly large' store started. Think about that first.
  13. Its not marbelizer. Its plain old solid colour paint, sprayed with very low pressure, and a large paint flow, using a big needle and nozzle. Use less thinners/reducer (none?) than usual. Hold the gun further back than normal. Practice. You only get one chance to get it right, and its hard to do.
  14. Titebond reacts with the skin on my fingers. The skin literally disappears until its quite sore, and soft skin tissue. Its taken me two years to work out which product was doing it...
  15. Here we go... again Im not going to argue with you. Its pointless. If you would like me to point out the mistakes i can see from your small build photos, im more than happy to. If i can see them in small photos, im sure there are things I cant see.
  16. and why is that? you always have to bring me down. Because in the future you will realize those guitars that you have to give away are not up to standards and you will have a bunch of instruments going around with your name on them that are less than ideal to say the least. If someone is not willing to pay premium prices for a custom guitar maybe that builder shouldn't be selling. Someone nominate this guy for president! Right on. I just took an order for a guitar worth $4800. Its not a hard guitar to build, but will look nice. All i can think about is, that I'm not charging enough, and it should have been $6000+ Afterall, these ARE instruments that will last the entire owners life, plus some, if cared for.
  17. Do you mind PMing me the web page they are listed on? I cant see anything that is 13" wide and will do a single piece top. I do see three pieces on the first maple billet page, but none that match the look... they are what i call messy. Maybe they arent listed up yet? Did you actually go in there to their shop? Whats it like? and why is that? you always have to bring me down. If you cant sell the finished guitars for the cost of parts, there just MUST be something wrong with them. Right? If they are perfect for $400, why arent you so busy you dont know how to keep up? Maybe you dont know where to sell them? Maybe you're trying to sell them to the wrong crowd... people who dont have the money. Always bringing you down? Maybe you mean bring you back to reality? I dont even know you mate, you're just the dude who copies my designs, and cant wait to post up my details of my new builds. Here is some love to make you feel all rosey
  18. Because he obviously will get more than one top out of this, so it'll be $200 x the number of tops he cuts. Besides, this probably isn't a guitar builder buying this. How much do you sell your guitars for? I seem to remember you talking about doing that in your last couple of threads... i never saw this until just now. i sell my guitars for the price of me losing 200 bucks, thats how much. naw, well, it depends. i have never sold a guitar for even close to a medium quality import guitar. the most ive ever sold one for was 400. Its amazing how far some people will go just to build a guitar for someone. Every single one of those $400 guitars will haunt you in the future. I saw that $1000 piece of wood in the first post, and immediately knew i could sell it for $2400 or more as upgrades. At $1000 it was a good buy.
  19. Off topic trivia: If you are allowed to sit and play the Hendrix guitar in the Hard Rock Vault (invites only, so rock stars, VIPs, and the occassional lucky person are allowed), you have to remove one of my business cards from between the strings, prior to playing. Marketing! Of course, it pays to know the Vault curator To bring it back on topic, here is my personal guitar, also a replica
  20. Do as it says. You need to remove it for a reason.
