  1. Thanks I'm actually using a Dual Coil for this bass, along with a Fat Stack. I'm building 5-string bass now and it'll have 2 Dual Coils Nordstrand pickups. So, one man is building custom onboard preamp for this bass. And he needs resistance and inductance. I've called Carey (from Nordstrand) and he told they don't know inductance! (i don't believe this...). Maybe you have ability to measure it? (as i know the special device is needed for measuring).
  2. Simo, your builds are always awesome! Perfect wood and shape choiсе and clear work. I've mentioned you used Nordstrand pickups for your previous build too. Have you ever tried Nordstrand Dual Coils? (image).
  3. I had so many projects so this build went really slow. Fortunately we gonna finish this in 2-3 weeks. So, we glued the binding, inlay, drilled tuners holes and fretted the fingerboard. Now you can see the guitar after 2 coats of sealer - i think very nice textured body and neck. Next week we gonna add the color.
  4. I have an opportunity to offer white and black ABS plastic binding for your projects of following sizes: 0.018"x0.75" (0.45mmx19mm) - black - 15,90$ per 10 meters (32,8 feet) 0.018"x0.87 (0.45mmx22mm) - white - 15,90$ per 10 meters (32,8 feet) 0.039"x0.75 (1mmx19mm) - white - 16,90$ per 10 meters (32,8 feet) 0.079"x0.75 (2mmx19mm) - white - 22,9$ per 10 meters (32,8 feet) Black and cream plastic will be available a little bit later. Also it's possible to order exotic colors like aluminium and wooden textures (it can be discussed by email). All the plastic is 19-22 mm height. MIN order - 10 meters (32,8 feet) The orders will be sent from Russia, Moscow as airmail parcel. Payment method - paypal You can ask questions and place your orders in this topic and by email: daviddarno _ gmail.com
  5. I voted for Simo's MK-5 - awesome build. Watched it from the beginning and i'm really impressed with choice of wood and shape. Also i'd like to mention Christmas Miracle - cool design but a bit rough perfomance; SA Auditorium acoustic - very nice build, original design and wood choice; Nova neck through - nice, simple and original and i like the pickups too;
  6. awesome choice of wood. Looking forward this build ^^
  7. Very nice build! The body shape is simple and nice. Can you share the opinion about Korina (=Limba?)? Nether worked with it and i'm interested about it sound properties and ease of machining.
  8. Very nice guitar - sweet shape and nice finish! I wish you post big photos of final result.
  9. Thx bluesy and IPA or death! That is stewmack binding 1mm thick - we use it both for the neck and body. With carbon rods (yes, they give extra stiffness) truss rod works great (i mean double-action truss rod because i don't use standard rods) - even 1/4 turn of the nut gives a good result.
  10. Some update We decided to change the inlay - now we have meteorite except sputnik and some other changes neck with truss rod and carbon rods Fingerboard with inlay (not glued and leveled) inlay detailes 1 inlay detailes 2 smoothed fingerboard-headstock transition neck heell headstock prepairing to route routed pickup cavity Interim result
  11. Some update: The body routed Carbon rods and trussrod channel routed The neck routed Gonna shape the neck and fingerboard soon
  12. very nice work, especially headstock - clean work and simple but very interesting shape. Waiting for update.
  13. ah, i haven't fully understand you, sorry Really 10 people can have 10 different opinions
  14. Hehe, I voted for this one, and one thing I liked was the tailpiece...funny what sways our votes! I mean that guitar is creatively made and that tailpiece looks like "from other guitar" For example watch the tailpiece in Dave's Blue Dragonfly http://www.mykaguitars.com/instruments/049/56.jpg I think the handmade wood taipiece would suit this Mikro's guitar more
  15. Orgmorg: First time i saw this guitar i didn't like it. But now i see that the idea is original and realization is good. Wish i have it in my country house (though i don't have any...) MATT!! The realization is very clear, as always, but the guitar looks lifeless (maybe that's because of simple finish) Chops As SwedishLuthier told, the body looks a bit heavy. But anyway i like an idea, the wood and finish. Really nice guitar Hooglebug I like the shape but the finish is too dark and looks a bit "homemade" MiKro Voted for you! Awesome wood, awesome realization. Only 1 thing i don't like very much is tailpiece - it's rather simple for this guitar Wish i could hold it in my hands. Daniel Really like this build - nothing to chicane. Especially i like finish and wood stripe at the end of the neck But at last moment i've decieded to vote for MikRo - a bit more original build. CRS Well build guitar but without soul. And as guys told - no additional info or photos. Avenger Again i agree with SwedishLuthier - i think you used to incompatible designs in one body so it looks disconnected. Though i like the wood and your work with it Also i think that a bolt-on neck doesn't suit here (the better choise would be sapele set neck imo) SwedishLuthier Very nice build - original idea and very nice realisation. And i really like the shape. About finish - i'd prefer more yellow top and more red back but that's only my opinion Hope to see more guitars from you in future (with building details ) Perry Perfect guitar. But it's "cold" for me.
  16. Thx Ryanesque, i haven't decieded yet what color to use in back and after your words i'll leave it natural. avengers63, i've got the woods in big Russian furniture company which order it in big German wood company
  17. Hello guys. When i saw a electric guitar for the first time i thought that the best guitar shape is arrow or something like this with sharp edges. And of course, i hated tele shape. But after some years i've found that it's shape is very pretty. Finally we (me and my bro) decided to make our own telecaster but with some original things. First of all, the wood: Body Sapele body+makore top ( ok, it's not the thin top, as usual, but it's thickness is 1.7 cm and the sapele "body" thickness is 2.5 cm ) You can see body wood here: 1 - the dark wood is sapele and under it you can see makore. 2 - in order to machine makore we had to cut it and then glue the pieces together 3 - the top after some leveling and sanding (i think pretty nice texture) 4 - body glued In our last project (ES-339 style) we used makore for the neck (it was really dark and heavy) and sapele for the body (it was light) but... i'm really suprised how the weight and the color of one wood spieces can differ. Now we have dark sapele and light makore. We selected the most resonant pieces for the body and neck Neck Another exotic wood in the guitar - Anigre. It's very resonant and rather lighweight. 5 - the future neck After that introduction i would like about technical specifications and style. Neck- 2 way truss rod, 2 carbon fiber rods, sperzel tuners, binded freatboard with custom inlay Body- hipshot bridge, top and back binding Golden age neck humbucker and haven't decieded yet about bridge one. The guitar will be called ....... "Space Hooker" and will have custom inlay with "sputnik" and stars on the freatboard and also will have the dark blue finish. I've made a picture in Photoshop, sorry for it's quality, but you can see the main ideas there. Any comments are welcome
  18. I've made this mistake too on one of the guitar and i can propose some solutions: 1. You need to finish the guitar with dark color (for example dark blue or red) with 20-30 % opacity. And before, make the cylindrical small wood parts and put them into the holes. Of course, in detailed view this problem place will be noticeble, but not so much. 2. You can put a nice inlay there 3. You can rout rectangular 2-3 mm deep hole in that place and feel it with zebrawood veneer. And of course, there are many other solutions. Hope you will finish it.
  19. Thx for your comment! I would like to tell that we've made that plate because our customer ordered the guitar to play something like metall on high gain (yes, it's strange with such shape). So he wanted the giutar "without noise". That's why we've made a metall box and put all the controls into it so we have't got any noise. About the shape - we haven't made the copy of Gibson ES-399 - just the guitar that only remined it. Also we made really thin acoustic cavities - as a result the guitar has 0 feedback on high gain.
  20. Very nice design - really doesn't look like tele but as a unique bass. Congratulations
  21. Amazing work! And i like the inlay on the headstock very much
