will this mod work well on a guitar? or is it more of a bass mod like it says in the first post? also where should i ground the mid control from, the back of the pot or one of the lugs?

that looks like a great mod, i am going to try it. i just have one question. there is only one wire connecting the tone to the volume, shouldent there be a second wire connecting the tone control to ground? Edit : also is there a certin type of inducter to use? or will any one do?

it would depend of how you wire the 2 varitones. if you have 2 capaciters lets say a .1uf and a .047uf and you wire them in parallel the values will add up and have the same value as a .147uf cap. but if you wire them in series the 2 values cancel each other out and you would have the same value as a .53uf cap. so you will get alot of tonal variations because all varitone controls are is a rotary swich with 5 or 6 different caps. it could sound really muddy and gross or very good. email the guy at bigdguitars i bet he can give you a better answer. matt

thanks alot, what do the letters in the code stand for? on this cap it says 2A473J. what do the A and the J mean?

hey, i am building a NPN boost pedal from the diy stompbox fourm. i want to add a 3 way on,on,on mini switch to do some tone change. i am pretty sure that if i increase the value on the imput cap i will get a more low end sound and if i lower he value of the imput cap i will get more high end. i want a 3 way switch to toggle between 3 imput caps. one .1uf (the value recomended in the project) and one of higher value and one of lower value. can anyone recomend cap values to use? thanks, matt

buy a good overdrive, it will make your amp come alive. it will make much more diference then new pickups. matt

some sort of footswitch would work, but wouldent it be better to have the switching on your guitar? you could use a 3 way switch, or a 3 way mini switch and have position 1 - magnetic position 2 - magnetic/pezio position 3 - pezio or you could have a blend pot with pezio on one side on magnetic pickups on the other. wait for someone more experienced with electronics to look at your wiring diagram. later on

GuitarMaestro'' I have to strongly disagree here. I have a B.C. Rich guitar with Agathis body. After replacing the stock pu's it sounds very good. It's all a matter of taste, but I am convinced that Agathis is not nearly as bad as it is made to be. Most Agathis guitars are cheap guitars to begin with and sound bad for many reasons, especially the pickups. It's not the wood that's at fault. Did you ever play an Agathis guitar that was otherwise decent Wes? '' did you by any chance replace the stock puckups with EMG actives?

i have tried it on my amps clean channel, and its the same. i had a guitar tech look over my wiring this afternoon and he says everything is fine. maybe the booster is very very subtle? has anyone used any boosters from guitar frenzy? thanks, matt

i just wired a active booster from guitarfetish.com into my guitar. i did all the wiring correctly and have went over al lthe conections with a multimeter for continuity. it still isnt working. the booster has 5 positions, bypass, full bottomed boost, upper mid boost, mid/trebal boost and big overdrive/mid boost. when i am in the first position it is fine, my normal guitars sound. when i switch it up to the second position there is the tinyest bit more bass, but almost no difference, you really have to listen for it. the 3rd and 4th positions are no different from the second and the 5th position has a tiny tiny boost in volume, but you cant notice it unless you listen for it. i am sure i did everything correctly. does anyone have any ideas of whats wrong? it has to have more boost then that. has anyone used one of these before? did it work well? thanks, matt

i really dont think a headstock like the bc rich ones would look good. a rhoads is a classy looking guitar and i dont think a headstock like that would look good. thats just my oppinion, do whatever you think looks good. i think a more standard jackson style headstock would look better. jackson have a king v with a 3 per side headstock, it could look good too. i think a standard jackson headstock is best, but maybe a explorer style? do whatever you want and im sure it will turn out great. let us know how it turns out. king v http://www.jacksonguitars.com/gear/gear.php?partno=KV2T lates, matt

i think if your building a rhoads you should really have 22 freats or even 24 . a 22 freat neck wont effect your neck pickup tone at all, a 24 fret neck will a little bit, but nothing bad. anyway keep us posted, sounds like a great project. here are some pics of the rhoads i built last year. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v169/mat...ar_pics_056.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v169/mat...ar_pics_050.jpg later on

hello, i am starting to build my second guitar. i play mostly metal and rock. i was a sound with lots of mids and highs with not to much bass, but i nice tight low end. i am going to put seymour duncans in this guitar since i have dimarzios in my other guitar . it will be 2 humbuckers. i have been looking at a custom custom for the bridge and a 59 for the neck. or maybe a JB for the bridge. i want a fairly high output pickup for the bridge. can anyone give me some information about the custom custom? also i want to coil tap my pickups, how well will the pickups i am looking at sound when tapped? also anyone have any pickups (not emgs please) to recomend? thanks, matt

i need a 3PDT switch for a stompbox i am building. none of the electronics stores or guitar stores in my area have one. i have seen a few on the internet but you cant just order one , you need to order a bunch. does anyone know where i can get one, or does anyone have a 3PDT switch lying around they would be willing to sell me? thanks alot, matt

i dont quite understand what you mean. will this pedal work as a clean boost or not? if i put this pedal in my effects loop or infont of my amp and have the pot on the right setting will it give me a clean boost like a seymour duncan pickup booster or a mxr micro amp? or will it just add some distortion? i will be using with a already overdriven amp. if it wont what will it do? also if this isnt the right pedal can anyone direct me to a schematic to a step by step clean boost? thanks, matt

hello, i am thinking about building a NPN boost from the diy stompbox fourm. i want a clean boost to turn on for lead work so i dont get drowned out. i dont want a overdrive. i know the NPN is a boost but will it be fairly clean? if i put it through my effects loop will it work as a clean boost? i dont mind it if boosts my gain a tiny bit as well. also can anyone tell mo how many dB's of boost it has? i have posted an searched all over the diy fourm and i cant find the information i am looking for. thanks, matt

i would say your pot is worn out, or is dirty. you could take it apart and clean it but it is much easyer to just pop a new one in, it will only cost you about 5 - 10 $. before you do that check to make sure that all your connections are good and that your solder joints are clean. i would just put a new pot in, and if that isnt the problem you will still have a nice new clean pot in your guitar. later on

ill look at that, does anyone know if there is much of a diference in the one i was looking at (Onboard Boost Guitar Tone Monster Circuit OVERDRIVE F05) and the one Dugz Ink sugested ? is the one he sugested more of a gain boost or a tone shaper? also is the one i was looking at more of a gain boost or a tone shaper? how much of a gain boost do you think the highest gain setting on the one i am getting have? almost as much as a overdrive pedal? thanks
