  1. Solder wire is made out of silver, lead, thin, zinc and other alloys, the most common ones are silver / lead and thin/lead, this are found on different ratios, 10/90, 30/70, 60/40, 50/50. I like the 60/40 and the 30/70, this ones give a better appearance once done. And as long as you solder in a well ventilated area, you should be good, the lead in the solder won't affect you because the fumes are from the rosin core, and not the lead, the problem with lead is when inhaled in small particles or ingested, and from fumes from lead based paints, there are a few companies making lead free stuff but Ihaven't been able to get my hands on them so I can't say anything about them...
  2. Yeap, I love to string like that, not only the strings last longer, but I find it better to rest my palm over there to mute the strings, also like you want to do my fet boar is scalloped 12-22, and as soon as I get a contour dremel (short of funds) I will finish the whole neck, Go to photobucket and make an album there, thats what I 'm doing to post my pics...
  3. They have more measurable output because of the frequenzy response is higher, EMG-81 Logo Color Silver Resonant Frequency (kHz) 2.25 RMS Output Voltage 1.25 Peak Output Voltage 1.75 Output Noise (dBV) -91 Output Impedance (Kohm) 10 Current @ 9V (Microamps) 80 Battery Life (Hours) 3000 EMG-85 Logo Color Gold Resonant Frequency (kHz) 2.55 RMS Output Voltage 1.25 Peak Output Voltage 1.75 Output Noise (dBV) -89 Output Impedance (Kohm) 10 Current @ 9V (Microamps) 80 Battery Life (Hours) 3000 As you can see the output is the same, and all pickups will sound more bassy on the neck, that's how it is. look on the Gibson selector plate, treble for bridge, rythm for neck. I was aware of the remarks on the EMG site, thats the set I got on my EPI, guitarmonky55, got any pics of the guitar to show, this is mine. Sorry for the out of focus.

  5. Nope, the 81 is hotter, the reason why it's louder is because the resonance (vibration) of the string in that area is greatter that in the bridge, if you had 2 81's you will have to lower the pup a little bit to get the same output, thats my set up on my strat, 81-81 while on the Les Paul is 85-81
  6. An old thread arrised from the Ashes of the Threads heaven, BUT I CAN'T LET IT PASS. I vote from this list for Yngwie, heard everybody else, grow up listening to Vai and Satriani, then this KID in Alcatras came and blow the hell out of everyone, holy smokes, this guy is awsome, and to see him in person after almost 20 years listening to him for the first time was the best gift a guitar player could get, Well after getting that out of my system, I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT NOBODY HAS MENTIONED RANDY RHOADS, for the time and the people playing in that era he was the best.... PS Kurt Cobain, please get a llife
  7. NO, you can connect it to an amplifier solid state and from there to the cab. The output of the POD is line output, and you will ned a floor board to use it to it's full potential. Line 6 is an awsome piece of equipment but for the price of the POD 2.0, and if you already have a cabinet ie. 4X12 you can get the Line 6 Spider II HD Head, Look Here. or if you want to record direct and don't want to buy extra stuff get the GNX3 or the BOSS GT6 from which I prefer the GT6 but I own the GNX1 and I wish I had the 3, I find it more user friendly that the GT6 and the Warp function is awsome for getting the sound you are looking for.
  8. Scott, where in Maryland are you, I plan on buying some wood to make my guitar in a few weeks and I will like to know if the place you go is near me so that I can go there to see what I can get... I plan on making a strat type body, maybe like the soloist to get rid of the plywood one on my Squier.
  9. Drak, I tried to find the saphire blue guitar that made me think about the color but the already sold it. It was a Mah body and the blue looked the same as with the maples. I guess that they bleached it... I am going to test on scraps before painting the actual guitar, and see which way looks better I love blue guitars!
  10. Did he said 8 yrs , I think his guitar is inside an hermeticaly sealed glass bubble , well seriously, I think that's a little too much time, even with the little playing that I do the strings go deaf in about 2 months... and I keep my gutiar clean and in the case if possible. On the string care issue, all has been said, clean your hands, if you sweat a lot while playing, wipe it down occasionaly, other wise at the end, I do once in a while rub some lemon oil over them but it's because I use it to clean the frets and fret board... I don't know how the weather on the part of Canada is, but I used to leave about 2 miles from the Atlantic Ocean (Puerto Rico) and it was hell on my strings, but they still lasted about 2 months if keept out of the case. If keept in the case and after wiping them they lasted about 4 months... hope this will help.
  11. I'm just saying that if you see posts thoseare already registered and sign-on the forum, it was directed to you, just to correct the post, but there is a lot of people like you say that browse the forum without voice, Idid that my self, not a big fan of forums, they are full of young kids with nothing in their mind but mess around with people...( like me about 10 years ago), ... but this forum is nice and there is a lot to learn from it. And the comment about the sound was for Lee. Sorry if I don't sound logic some times, Spanish is my first language, and I have to translate what I think almost all the time...
  12. Don't forget the cheap monofilament instrument cable from radio shack, the ones that get all that noise even from moving around...
  13. These Days DiMarzio YJM pickups in the neck and bridge positions. Old Days DiMarzio HS-3 pickups in the neck and bridge positions. I doubt this is absolute in all cases. yeap, the YJM is the same HS-3 but winded for Yngwie's Specs. And I will recomend any combination of the EMG custom series. It lets the guitar sing better, since the magnet pull is minimun because of the smaller magnets used... the DG-20 is awsome, I have the KH-21, since I like Humbuckers better, but you can match what ever combination you want, call them up and they will send it wired, the only conection that you have to make is the output jack...
  14. thanks Man, and it's Mahogany , you need to start bringing guitars out of the closet man, I want to see that Diablo Blanco done, ASAP, no more teasers,...
  15. Drak, I know they are two different things, I have never used the thick wood filler thought, I always get the wery liquid one, specially the ones alcohol based, I have tried water based but I had to wait a long time before being able to sand... and I thpought the discussion point above me was refering about the fact that some wood filler can leave patches of different color, hence the fact that I added that it didn't matter since he had already stated that he was finishing in a solid color. I really don't use the grain filler unless I wan't to show the grain or stain in the case of the work that I usualy do, I'm starting in guitars but I've been working with wood since about 14, I'm 35 now. I will be using the stew mac grain filler or the re-rack one since I'm planning on making a strat body from Mahogany and then painting it see thru blue... please correct me if I'm wrong because maybe it's different for finishing guitars, But like I said, he had mentioned that he was using a solid color, so my guess was that he didn't ha to bother ordering a grain filler from here the USA if iot was so difficult to get it were he was, heck I have even used a heavy build polyester primer on some of my work.
  16. Nuh-huh. Wood filler is thick snotty crap for bodgers to fill gaps, repair holes and mask ill fitting joints. Grain filler is just for filling the grain. You can probably get away with using wood filler under an opaque colour, but I wouldn't advise it for anything else. Maybe this is one of those divided by a common language things... You might be right but Docaroo already said he is finishing with blue metallic paint, no need to see the wood thru it , so the wood filler will work to get the smooth finish.
  17. Not necessary, the Kramer Focus 1000 that I had was not recessed and I could lay the action all the way down, when you get your Floyd check to see the one that you are getting, there are ones that you need to recess and others that doesn't.
  18. If they are posting the have to be sign on, playing sound OK, I'm not a big player so I don't comment much about other peoples unless they are really good or they really suck, other than that
  19. I'm with you on that Wes, that's why when Im interested on playing somenthing iusualy try the tabs online and when that fails I go and try to get the Book.
  20. I don't have the capabilities right know but if you go to the equipment you plan on getting web site they have demos or the sounds you can get, also you can go to Musicians Friend they have patches for almost all the effects they sell.
  21. I've heard that the GNX1 doesn't switch between patches instantly, leaving a 1/2 second gap, which IMO is quite unacceptable. Have you experienced this, or was the guy I heard using a faulty piece of equipment? What do you need a MIDI connector for, if you're going to record? MIDI is used to control what patch etc. you're using, not to transfer sound. I'm using a Boss GX-700. If someone tells me where I could upload a clip, I can get you a sample in a few hours. yes it does have a 1/2 sec delay, but I have had no problem with it so far, Usually when Iplay with someone I don't play lead, ( I suck soloing) so I don't have to change patches on a fly. If I had more money iwould have bought the GNX2 or if I had enough the GT6 (BOSS) but for what iplay, usualy for my self, this is better than the AXG1 that I had!!!
  22. I'm a Maiden fan my self and I had the same combo that Dave and aAdrian uses, the Jr JB and Cool rail, and an HR1 in the bridge, and I never could pull of their sound, and be able to get the distortion you mentioned on the end of your thread, " I'm looking for a good solid sound that is usefull for this style of play - and with palm-mutes and harmonics that kick you in the balls and tear your hair out!!" Now I have KH21, and I get anything I want out of it, so is up to you, but I will go with EMG's, unless you plan on playing a lot of clean stuff, then I will say that I don't know how, but with passives you get a better feel.
  23. I'm not 100% sure but ithink that the recessed floyd is one type and the ones thatgo flush are others, you should be able to get a low action on a floyd if it was mounted correctly, the only thing you need to do is have your guitar set up correctly!
  24. What da ya think Me, I will go with a 1966, Beetle, plain interior, only the floor carpet, aluminum tubs instead of the rear firewall and seat, only a recaro racing seat, a one piece fiberglass front end with a 10 galon fuel cell, a 8 point roll cage with lateral supports, and a Scat 2500cc type 1 engine with a 48mm De Llorto carburator, bored feeding a TO4 Garret turbo thru a custom made stainless intake, exiting thru a stainless header, a waste gate holding up to 30 lbs boost and then out of a 90 degree 3" elbow. Painted Bright Green with Pink bubbles on the nose... Just like my best friend back home!!! Sorry I was out of topic... but you started, Well on the fret issue I will say that as long as the height is the same you shouldn't run into much problem, you are in the same dilema that I'm I like the feel of the wider frets, but I have a hard time fretting them, after I came here and develop the balls to scallop my neck, now I can have the best of both worlds, I can't wait to put wide frets on my Strat neck in order to get the same feel of glidind thru my Les Paul with scallop neck!!!
  25. If you were going for a real replica, I will say like scott, no clear, or a thin layer then sanded so it will look like a used beater. But I don't know about you, after all the work put into the guitar, I will do as many coats as possible, the more depth the guitar shows the better, also it will protect were the colors meet, the reason some of Eddie's guitar lines looks faded and others don't is because he probably didn't used much clear either.
