  1. Actually it appears it was a limited production failure for Fender but in return has become a collectors item and I've seen them being sold for ~$2,500.00.
  2. not familiar with it but search 'fender starcaster' on yahoo produces 507 hits for me. Looks like it's a pretty rare breed and maybe worth some bucks!
  3. Just about any clear coat can have problems due to climate. Makes it very difficult to spray outside this time of year. I've been using good weekend days (very few of them I might add) and early mornings before things heat up. Doing little things like bringing the paint and body to equal temps as the spray environment helps a tiny bit I believe. Especially if you have the body in an air conditioned location, then take it out to humidity, water will condence like a cold can of Coke!
  4. Welcome to the forum! First I would suggest you use the search feature on the forum, these sorts of questions have been asked many times. There's a painting tutorial at reranch.com and many here at project guitar. If you're haven't answered your questions exhausting those efforts, let us know! Brian
  5. I do all the above when recording, including drums and keys. But in general I'm a lean mean shreddin machine.
  6. I've always favored alder but I've got three projects in the works with bassword, intended to be shreddin machines.
  7. Ya but it's pretty thick 1/8" is .125 and I'd like to stick to more of a normalish 3 ply .080 'ish. Also, if you see the pics there, the 'marble' doesn't have much figure in it and wouldn't really look all that pearlish. Somethings gotta be out there somewhere.
  8. Didn't see that goings on. It's getting closer but marbled they have doesn't look quite pearl and is pretty thick (1/8"). They have some pretty nifty Scroll Sanders though, I'm bookmarkin that one.
  9. Pick Guard Blank (12 x 18), White Pearloid 3-ply (WP/W/B) .090" Retail Price: $45.00
  10. I'm bumping this up after searching the site and still not finding what I'm looking for. litchfield is right, $10 for white or black pickguard material is reasonable but white pearloid is nuts at $39, it would be cheaper to just buy the precut guard cause I don't think it's big enough to make two of them. I see warmoth is a bit better in pricing but smaller sheets so I think it works out about the same. In my case I want to cut my own for a couple reasons, one of to bring the cost down a bit. The other is I want three strat guards but eliminate the volume knob hole and put the volume in place of the first tone, making a single volume, single tone config. The strat volume knob location has always driven me nuts because I'm constantly turning the volume down on accident while playing. Anyone found sources for pearloid guard material that isn't so insanely priced?
  11. At the moment no. I haven't purchased them yet and not sure if I will. They're going for $150 each or all three for $375. The owner swears they were made for Richie but were never used (or finished) those that were (two of them) were sold on ebay and brought in ~$375 each. I forgot to mention they are also pre cut for a locking floyd style nut. They do look exactly like this. I'll try to aquire some pics, but they are about 60 miles away from me and the owner doesn't do internet.
  12. I have access to three maple strat style necks that were theoretically made for Richie but I have not been able to prove that. They are all unfinished, two are fretted, one is not. All are pre-drilled for a Kramer offset screw holes with star inlays, black on the outside, pearl within. Anyone interested in theses?
  13. Well he had a little help in the demand dept because when he came out Gibson was at their all time worst! Lots and lots of Gibson Les Paul sales were lost to PRS's simply cause the LP's were poorly made and QA was aweful. At the same time, many Gibson endorsees' when over to PRS which gave them even more of a boost. Now, many of these same endorsees have gone back to Gibson suspecting cause they got their act together and the Custom Shop saved their butts.
  14. Looks marvelous Bill. Where do you put the jet fuel? Can see it now, IT'S A BIRD, IT'S A PLANE.....IT'S JELLY VEEEEEEE!!!
  15. I know many drummers and singers in the bay area but frankly you sound too young for any of them...don't get stars in your eyes kid. If your serious you wouldn't be asking these questions here.
  16. I've had this issue for years using jumbos with a 9-42. I also swap out the 16 for a 14 making it even worse, but I use a soft touch. Once in a while though, I'll get excited and grip a chord too hard and it's so obvious so quickly I let up on the grip really fast.
  17. Yes they are the same thing. You can avoid using compounds but more sanding and a final polish is the result. Go to the painting tutor http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=1723 and
  18. your second statement is closest. Taking each speaker as is for it's rating A pair of 100 watt at 8 ohms SHOULD be able to handle 200 watts a 16 ohms. Resistance being higher is lighter on the power source but also, the power source produces less power at a higher resistance.
  19. The Deft is nitro and if you are brushing it, expect to be sanding your bunn's off for days. You'd be better off with spray. There is no such thing as fast drying nitro, stuff takes quite a while to cure. For a good finish, you always have to sand no matter what it is.
  20. It's easy to find, Wal-Mart has it.
  21. Yes they'll be able to handle more power wired to 16 ohms but also your amp will go from being an 80 watt to a 40 watt. Power ratings are measured at a resistance, so if your amp is 80 @ 8 ohms, it'll likely be 40 @ 16 ohms or 160 @ 4 ohms (though it sounds like this amp will smoke at 4 ohms).. What is this amp anywho...putting 6"ers with that much power seens highly unusual?!?
  22. Eminence Alpha 6A speaker Just to ease my confusion, what is our target impedance? I had assumed from this that we wanted an 8 ohm load. If that's not the case, then I'm the one who's been speaking from the wrong orifice, sorry! Not totally, the issue is getting 8 ohms with two speakers. These wired will end up being 4 ohms (parallel) or 16 ohms (series which will work). The optimal solution would be two 16 ohm in parallel or two 4 ohm in series.
  23. Not bad at all, looks like they did some 'custom' placement on the tune-o-matic with the blue one.
