  1. Hey its Absent Mind over at UG just wanner tell you one more time how AMAZING this build is
  2. Can any one recommend a extractor fan? I read (I think it was on here) you have to use a specific type (like closed motor or something) so that its safe to use with flamable fumes such as from paint? Me and my dad are setting up a paint booth so I thought I better ask here incase I got a crappy one or something by mistake. Cheers
  3. Hey I'm having some trouble gluing magnets to my guitar body to hold a cavity in place. Which glue works best? Do I have to ruff up the metal on the magnets to get a good join? They're currently very smooth, and stay glued for a while but come unstuck easily. Cheers
  4. Hey I have an ebony fretboard and I may want to stain it a more uniform black, but I wont be able to do that until after I have inlayed and radiused the fret board, so I was just wondering if the said will have any effect on the inlays? I imagine it will just soak in the wood and wipe straight of the inlays? The inlays are a rock composite (Blood Red Basin) and white MOP. Can you recommend a ebony stain? Cheers
  5. Hey I was wondering if any one could identify the colour in the picture (link follows) and where to get the nearest match to purchase within the UK, or even if they know of any colour that matches around the world (like what car is painted the same colour or something) http://fededesigns.com/images/photos/gallery/650944.jpg I'm told its black and white swirled over a red base. But I was wondering if any one knew of a shade similar to that, that they could point me towards. I'm thinking a car spray would be a good base for swirling my body onto. Its thick, durable, simple etc, any comments on that? My build is getting to the point where I need to start experimenting with swirling as the contstruction will be finished soon, but I havent got a clue what base coat to use. Cheers!
  6. One of the nicest colour schemes I've ever seen!!!
  7. I dream of a guitar this a master grade 1 peice quilted maple top, that would just be amazin! Unfortunatly they are rare/expensive. Some people like the look of book match, but I dis like being able to see the join.
  8. Yeah I was going to suggest that you may still want a jack socket for recording and the such like.
  9. S7320 short scale? Its 25.5 thats the same as most 7s... I have the RG1527 and its just amazing, it needs the pups replacing muddy as hell on stocks through my MG lol I have some black outs I might put in it. But yeah, 7 strings FTW!
  10. 8 string compound scale for a first build? I like it! I like the parker fly head stocks but not really the blackmachines, they just look a bit weird. I do like strings that span air though, does look cool when done right.
  11. 1) I dont see why you cant swirl over the white primer, 2) dont sand the swirl, it will be quite thin so you would prob sand through and have to re do it, go straight to clear 3) test and find out 4) again you'll have to test, unless some one already knows
  12. I was thinking about adding binding, but I dont think I'de be confident enough (especially with the added fretting difficulties) Yeh its tapered to unfortunatly cant use that, and Wez its my first build so I have probably cocked something up but I did plan a lot so it should be fine, I'm using a TOM so I could use a high FB to keep action sensible.
  13. No the FB hasnt been radiused or anything yet, it will be thinner than that when complete.
  14. Yellow swirl could look awesome on this, may be a see through cavity cover with hazard markings inside the cavity?
  15. Its a shame you dont get to finish it yourself, would be nice to extend the course a couple of days to accommodate that.
  16. I'm guessing it will be fine for the two glue types to mix? Super glue isnt going to errode titebond or anything? lol (just to be sure )
  17. Hey I recently glued my fret board to my neck for a guitar I'm working on but when I unclamped and inspected it, I found that an area had not glued properly and there was a gap, there was also no squeeze out from the glue so I'm assuming there wasnt enough clamp pressure in that area. I'm wondering whether I can just insert some glue in to the gap (titebond in a syringe) and re clamp that area or do I have to re do the whole thing? Its a very thin gap, I put a bit of paper in to see how deep it is, and its pretty shallow, approx 5mm before the two peices have glued. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y176/neil...h/NeckPaper.jpg Cheers
  18. Wow ricky that looks really nice, love the colours! and dirge, scratchplate might have draw backs such as having a big un swirled section under it, although it would never be seen, would kinda anoy me. Also paint will fill into the cavities through the pup holes, so make sure everything is sealed or painted, and all holes are filled with wax before swirling
  19. Ormsby Multiscale, followed this build over at UG and its just amazing, mostly because everyone just picks it up and plays it like its a normal guitar, and seeing that I think has made a lot of us want to now own one. The arc of scalloping on the FB really blew me away when I first saw it, not really the idea, but it just looks quality I do wonder whether it would look better with a white head stock and ebony TR cover, to continue the contrast between the body and FB, but who knows.
  20. Could you get a decent quality pic of just the guitar? It looks really cool from the pic above but you cant quite see the swirl, looks like it worked really well with out borax though, which is a revelation.
  21. You could leave the inlay a little proud of the paint, whack on the colour coats and then sand the MOP flush (taking the paint off) and then the whole thing up to grit before clear.
  22. The not so famous metallica song Any one know why it does fade to brown? Is it like a hit or miss thing, or will it always eventually fade. Even after its been sealed and lacquered etc?
