I think bolt on is much better, Because if you make a mistake on the neck, or it breaks you can eaisly replace it.
sustain wise, i dont think there is a difference.. or much of one anyways.
I would go with bolt on.
Yeah, but the pic is off the ibanez site (i dont yet have a scanner)
http://www.ibanez.com/guitars/guitar.asp?model=SR506
p.s. Correction to the neck wood, its bubinga and Wenge (not mahogony)
i dont know how to put a pic up here, so ill link to it
On some it is, but on some its not. You would probley be fine, if you didnt take off too much.
do you use to bottom frets enough to actually do this, or just cause its somthing to do.
um, i dont know about that one, It would take stability of the neck away, and tear up the finish on your guitar, but I geuss you could. If your new to this, you should probley check with a pro, or get somone else to do it.

There you go, its under the 21 to 22 conversion thing
it may not be what you are looking for, as it is an extension, not a 24 fret neck.
No point really. but theoretically you could i geuss, If you were careful not to change the angle with uneven glue. But the pocket for a bolt on may not be tight enough for a set neck, If not you could layer it with some kind of coating.
I think its also tilt back because it absorbes a blow better. So if you crash the head into a wall while violently tossing your self around the stage in a rageing skank, it wont break the neck as easily.
but i could be wrong
Ok, I have basses.. not guitars
Ibanez 300 dx (4 string)
and Ibanez 506 sdgr (6 string) this thing is pritty sweet, maghonoy body with 5 peice maghonoy and bubungia neck. It also has 2 bartolini soap bars.
Get the book called "Build your own electric guitar" by melvyn Hiscock, It explains that exact topic in depth and its just a great book to have. Its only about 19 bucks.
