  1. that is supposed to be playable?
  2. no...you would angle the headstock standard, and use a string tree of some type to adjust the strings that need it
  3. hehe...good choice,maiden....you will find it is a super easy rout. i think wammiusa is making a killing here...i HOPE that the kahler takes off and sales go sky high...i have hated the pain in the ass floyd system for a long time now..but it was the only real choice
  4. it is solid as well.you should see this sucker in person...it is by far the best i have built so far..but yes,the blank was freaking heavy...3" by 18" by 22" was at least 50 pounds
  5. buy a preslotted and radiused fretboard...and build the neck before the body.it's a piece of cake, really.i love building necks...bodies are much tougher
  6. i agree 100%....my building is based more on improving existing designs than creating new ones.
  7. the 84 is at the 28" side....for that tuning...i kind of think it is a bit thick
  8. the gauges used on that blackmachine seem out of wack at the big string...notice every other string is very "relative" to each other...but the 84 is twice as much of a leap... i think it's probably a bass string
  9. the spalt guitar is just an example...but the similarities are there.i am not saying it is a bad thing...most of my guitars are based very heavily on other guitars...i just mean to say i can't give a good opinion on that because of the tele similarities. but search around the web a bit..you'll find quite a few that are very similar...again,no big deal.it's just that from your first post you seem like you are desiring a very unique design...that's just not the design for you if that is the case
  10. they pull up and down, same as a floyd.it's just that the springs are shorter and are under the trem, but attached to a cam so they only go down 1" if you want to know how MUCH they will pull up or down...listen to slayer's "reign in blood"...specifically "alter of sacrifice" for a good example
  11. ah yes...now i can see it. are you aware that is very much like those one-off tele designs on spaltguitars.com? i can't really give much of an opinion on this design...because i have a severe dislike for tele or tele-esque guitars.it's a hangup of mine. others will be along shortly i am sure who might have a more informed opinion.
  12. my first critique would be to make your pics public...i can not see them
  13. jb in the bridge...leave the neck pup alone. amp....line 6 and crate both have some decent for rock and metal small amps...
  14. alder has no pores..it is one of the few woods that you really don't need to take special care sealing.i guess i just don't get that idea...mahogany is much harder to seal, yet on all the s series they put no laminate on the paint grade models
  15. just enough to cover the neck,man...if i had to quantify...i would say 1mm
  16. why did you put this back after admin deleted it?the only place selling guitar related stuff is permissable is in the classified section.... this is very spamular in nature(especially after you just pasted the same thing over again, including the part about the first post thing) i am moving this to the right section...if you post the same topic again in the off topics section, you will be banned from posting indefinately
  17. now where would be a good place to buy corian in sheets?how would you cut it?
  18. http://www.wammiusa.com/7328.html rggr?lookie lookie...$200 right now can't beat it,guess what wesley's ordering soon
  19. http://www.sevenstring.org/forum/showthread.php?t=21253 emg 808 coming soon by the way, they say it is a 40dc housing...not a 45 dc...i just checked on gpd and they show a 45jv5 which is plenty long
  20. have you checked the string spread on a prebuilt 8 string bridge? also...i would most definately use a kahler because you can narrow the string spacing a bit...if you can pick on a 12 string acoustic, you can pick on a slightly narrow 8 string. i really think a 707 would work...but you know what?all of this 8 string talk has me interested as all hell...i am going to go ahead and start planning an 8 string vee of my own.then i can at least find out all about it as i go... hmmm...an 8 string v is going to be a long s.o.b. to balance right...might do something else body wise...have to give it some thought
  21. now how would you go about glueing corian?does epoxy hold it well? the only real use i see for corian is a possibility of a fretboard... other than that it might make nice control knobs, inlays, pickup rings, bridge saddles, nuts, fretbooard binding(if glueing works),truss rod covers,etc...maybe a pickgaurd..might work for a wraparound bridge
  22. hehe...look on the left side of the photo here http://westhemann.com/my%20music/pics/IM000055.JPG see that flame maple blank all laminated up?that is the neck for this explorer...before i did anything to it...
  23. erik....that is awesome bubinga...the quilt is so large...but you might want to practice a different facial expression in the mirror, though it did make me laugh i admit. maiden is right...i put that headstock on everything...so i only pick body styles it looks good with xanthus...i put a trem on everything...just about anyway...but it is meant to be as non traditional as possible...notice the upper fret access?you won't find that on a gibson.. basically when i do a guitar "tribute"...i take the original shape and completely basdtardize it for better upper fret access, better balance, better hardware..whatever i think it needs...and i like a gibson explorer but i don't like the fixed bridge or the upper fret restriction...or the pickgaurd
  24. i would make it stock 6 size...no reason to make it more uncomfortable than necessary, and the zebrano is already heavy enough to counter the extra neck weight
