  1. $38000 buys alot of guitars
  2. i may be wrong but i thought elm was an unstable wood.
  3. i don't even know who buckethead is,but i had to go with stevie ray.see there is no such thing as a best guitarist,in my opinion.there are a thousand guys with equally amazing chops out there so i have to go with who, musically is the greatest songwriter AND also an amazing guitarist.stevie had it all,and i have seen him play on austin city limits(a local show on p.b.s)many times and the guy never missed a note and always put his heart and soul into it.most times he didn't even open his eyes while he was playing.he just felt it and played it.i also love kerry king, jeff hanneman, marty friedman, dave mustaine(rythm genius),and the man who is THE reason i picked up my first guitar;kirk hammet ,for taking conventional blues based shredding a step further(although i think he was killed and replaced by aliens in the early 90's.)don't forget that kirk was also an original guitarist for exodus, and if memory serves me he was only 18 when he joined metallica.
  4. is this your only guitar?i hope not cause painting takes forever.look in the tutorial section there is alot of info there.it's under refinishing or something like that.also read through all the past topics in this section because lgm has supplied ALOT of tips and paint reccomendations.it's going to be tough for you to take your time and get it right if you don't have another guitar to play.it's going to be tough to be a guitar god without a guitar (just teasing) really though read through the site all you need to know about painting is already here(almost).good luck!
  5. you're in florida, right?i have seen it on the way to a job in west palm beach at the mall.we put up the dillards there.very humid.(yes gedward, even more so than georgia)humidity messes up my hair .they do the same thing in louisiana, but the locals there in general have less teeth than the ones in florida(i don't know why)
  6. o.k here we go.i just got it in from guitar trader and i gotta say it's the best $300 i ever spent.fit and finish is decent, better than what you might expect, but the metallic flakes in the red are a little cheesy looking.i was surprised that the pickup mounting rings are metal instead of plastic,a welcome surprise.the upper fret access is staggering, could not be better, and the tone and sustain are excellent, even though the pickups are not great(infiniti 1&2).i will replace them with emg's very soon.the balance is great and the instrument feels nicer than any of my other guitars except my sabre, and i think that may change when i break it in.o.k. alex the trs;i have to say it feels GREAT,better than my lo pro.it dives and pulls quite a bit farther and stays completely in tune.only time will tell about the knife edges but i don't mind replacing it.only thing i don't like is the HUGE volute at the headstock.it is not in the way but jeez it's big!i understand it's for strength but it might be a little bit of overkill,(like shooting a rat with a 50 cal.)the neck is very rigid(i guess because it's a 5 piece walnut and maple)and that gives it a nice solid feel.and yes dcord the binding looks great.i would have paid twice as much for this guitar and been happy, but at $300 it's a steal! by the way i just want to pass on,guitar trader was excellent to deal with ,the service was great, the website purchase was easy,a real human being called my house to confirm the order and fix a problem(mine),and they shipped THE NEXT DAY in a well padded box.i will definately be buying from them again(i have my eye on that faded gibson v).
  7. how strange!i can't tell if the bridge is off center or if the controls are placed wrong, but something is amiss.
  8. good combo, but heavy and i think it might be too bright.i am going to use korina on mine
  9. hey matia i think a stainless scratchplate would be cool.i work with stainless from time to time(as an ornamental ironworker)so here you go.the cheapest way to cut it(not the only way but the cheapest)is with something called a slitting disc on a small grinder.go slow and WEAR EYE PROTECTION AND LONG SLEEVES.when you sand the edges use a sanding disc(again on your small grinder)and do not take the sharp edges off of the face of it with this method,it will leave scratches.when you reach the desired shape then you can hand sand the sharp edges with emery cloth.again be careful not to scratch the face.the best way to get rid of these edges is to rub your sandpaper in one direction across the edge itself(if the scratchplate is flat on a table this would be down not across)drill the holes with a high speed bit, they make them for stainless, countersink the holes, and LIGHTLY polish with 0000 steel wool.this should give you a reflective finish.again i think that stainless would make an awesome looking scratchplate.you can also used polished aluminum which is not only lighter,it shields itself.same tecnique to cut and shape it.
  10. here it is i just fixed it check it again
  11. i cut through mahogany easily.just get the thin blades and go slow.
  12. yes it is just leave a little meat around the edges to sand down as a jigsaw doesn't cut the edges perfectly square(the blade leans a little around corners)
  13. yeah guitar trader has excellent customer service and great prices.only thing is i wish they had more variety.high end esp's and more hamers and such.
  14. i just took a closer look at my fernandes,it too has an angled locking nut. d'oh!
  15. so i have been looking into the flextone amps and the flextone III seems pretty cool.is this what you have?how closely does it match the amp it's modeled after?how is the gain?is it good clean and crunch?and does it have a footswitch to allow you to switch between amp models seamlessly?thanks for your input.
  16. i just got around to that link kevan put up to this guy and all i gotta say is wow!what does this guy do,sleep with his guitar?does someone spoon feed him so he doesn't have to put his guitar down to eat?excuse me while i go kill myself for being inadequate.
  17. i don't know but check out stewmac.com in electronics.they have what you need.
  18. was it krylon?krylon has the worst tip design!your lucky it didn't stick in the open position, they do that alot.keep a bucket handy to throw it in just in case!
  19. a 2" thick seven string solid maple guitar!oh my aching back!bet it will sound good though.may have to put wheels on it.
  20. alex is right,i do the same thing on my sabre.but some guitars don't have angled locking nuts(fernandes for example).you have to have the retainer just right or it will raise in pitch.by the way alex your english is better than alot of americans i know.
  21. another way to check it is in the neck pocket cause then you don't have to scrape any paint.but really plywood is not all that bad considering the price and the important thing is to learn how to play.that's where the enjoyment is.i always preferred my plywood guitar to my sabre(before i found out it was plywood)amazingly enough, most guitarists don't know jack about guitars.you can make great music on any guitar.for example,i always heard basswood was impossible to get good tone out of,but now i know it only depends on the tone you are looking for.there will be plenty of time for that really great guitar.just a word to the wise, when i was in high school i was in a band where our drummer spent so much time trying to improve his drum set(ussually by painting it different colors)that he had no time left over for practice,so we ditched him after a year in which time he showed no improvement at all,he only had a shiny set of drums.the bottom line is,people respect you more for how you play than what you play.
  22. my first guitar was a plywood body strat and not only do i still have it,it still sounds great!i paid $200 so yes yours is a decent price.like alex said just use it to learn on and you will never regret it.
