  1. Hifi audio is ment to reproduce sound. Guitar cabs are used to produce sound and there for are used as part of your tone shaping just like pickups wood and amp. Studio and hifi stuff will also be made of mdf where guitar cabs will be plywood or solid wood. Most of your speakers are aimed to emulate the speakers from the 50's and 60's to be honest leo fender probably just baught the cheapest things jensen made the same thing that went in to home sterios and tvs but as technology progressed so did speaker quality and guitar players liked the way the older speakers shaped there sound so at some point makers had to back up and make them like they used to.
  2. nice month four insane guitars i havent read through the post but i didnt see any flaws in the pics just a few things that i didnt like (just personal preferences) for me it came down to curtisa and scott's builds i ended up voting for scott because of the work he did to the back side and his finish work i wish curtis would have posed pics of the back so i could have compaired them, that being said scotts control covers are top notch. Demonx and Shad both did awsome work but there final product didnt tickly my fancy.
  3. it wont hurt the speakers at all. the only thing it will do is kill the bass response and the mids will be muffled the highs will be effected but not as bad as the bass and mids. it happens all the time to guys doing car and home audio its just a simple out of phase problem but you will think your amp is dieing.
  4. i like the ted webber sig series fairly decent speaker and not too badly priced. i think it falls on the type of music you play for clean and bluesy type tones i prefer atleast a 10" speaker. with higher gain stuff you need a different style speaker somthing that wont breakup nearly as bad.
  5. i personaly think one of the big problems with a lot of amps including cheaper tube amps is speaker selection. speakers can make a huge diffence in tone they can turn a cold harsh sounding amp in to a nice smooth warm delight.
  6. Sounds like some aftermarket crap in there. Id rewire it to my liking
  7. i think i would drop the second channel for now and do a cathode follower in to the tone stack and then run that in to the 6au6. but thats mainly because i have no idea how the 6au6 is gonna react feeding a tone stack.
  8. If ya dont mind post your schematic i would probably like too se what you came up with
  9. If ya dont mind post your schematic i would probably like too se what you came up with
  10. Is that a amp or something used by nasa in the 50's
  11. Valve amps tend to be warmer and have some natural compression and a few other things. If solid state amps float your boat then by all means go with one. The best amp out there sounds good to you, it doesnt matter what i think itsa your music.
  12. i wouldnt worry too much about the caps. theres a ton of mojo credited to caps thers better places to focus your attention i have always though it would be fun to design a amp with 6v6 in the preamp section run a 12ax7 in to a 6v6 (much like a champ) then regulate that down then run in to a good clean power amp. use the 6v6 in the preamp section to create power tube distortion. if you could build something like that it should have a nice bluesy sound at managable volume levels. just a idea.
  13. if you have access to a scroll saw they work good but your always gonna have to finish it up with sandpaper and files (atleast i have had to) this is your chance to get it perfect if you screw up on the template your guitar is gonna be screwed up so just take your time.
  14. i think you would agree when i say a playable guitar is worth more than an all original wall hanger, but others might not agree.
  15. do a series parrallel set up on the tone and then a tap on the volume for each pickup.
  16. I would play them both then decide. See what fits you
  17. Hey Pal (lol thats funny atleast to me) listen to this dude he could right a book on tone knobs and caps. infact if your building a strat i really recomend going with three knobs volume, tone, and ansils bass cut.
  18. a lot of guys split up pbass pickups for cigarbox guitars you might try to do some searches at cigar box nation or one of the other sites.
  19. ergonomics are realative to each person what one person my like another may hate. so if you like angled necks go with it if you dont then dont. personaly either or.
  20. I wouldn't. Strip the guitar most of your factory finishes these days are so bullet proof your better off using it for a base just scuff it down with some 800 grit and go from there.
  21. take a look at the 1300 dollar one its not near big enough to print a guitar body. maybe some knobs and pickup covers/rings and small stuff.
  22. fender are getting pretty damn good - i would be happy buying one unseen. they pretty much do exactly what they say on the tin - even the squiers are really consistently good for the price, at least on anything above the cheapo affinity level (the new squier offsets are very tempting) but gibson's do vary a lot - there are very nice ones out there but a lot have issues that need sorting. I would never buy a gibson without trying it first and doing some shopping around PRS put them all to shame i wasnt bashing there quality like i said i dont have that much experience with them i have just noticed that each one feels diffent where some of the imports you if you have played one you have played them all.
