  1. I know that it is not on your list, but it looks more like a "Talon" to me. Just my $0.02 worth. Shibs
  2. Well Done... Bravo, Bravo.... Are you going to do another one? It seems as though you have a knack for it!
  3. I find that the Dremel Tool is not just great for guitar projects, but anything else that I may be doing at home, you know, Honey Do's..... I've removed old grout around the tiles in the bathroom, I used it to cut my holes in the sheet rock for additional wall outlets (actually for the Lan Cable that I ran through-out my house). It even helped when I refinished my Grill, it's great for all kinds of projects, so I was able to justify my purchase because of all of it's other uses! I plan on sharpening my lawn mower blades with it this weekend actually!
  4. Well, I can tell you that I was never one to copy, I like my own thing. BUT.... You have a talent, that guitar is looking great, Maybe one day I may give it a try. Anyway, I can't wait to see the finished product! Well Done!!! Shibs
  5. Great, thanks for the advice. I will take it to heart. I have found another site that will save me about $20.00 on the Badger 150 Kit (they want $99.00 for the same kit), but Stew-Mac has everything else that I need, so I may just pay the price in order to get it all in one shipping. Anyway that I do it... I will get lots of use out of it, so it is worth the money! Thanks again Shibs
  6. I wouldn't go with anything other than the nitrocellulose lacquer, I have been doing some research and have discussed it with a few friends of mine who do a few guitars each year, they said that they had tried other stuff, but the best results, even with the finish sanding and buffing, they found the Nitro to be the best, it won't yellow over time, easy to use, it is easily repaired and has superior acoustical properties! The only draw-back is that you will want to spray it on which can cost a few more in tools (sprayers etc...) you can order everything that you need from Stew-Mac, the price isn't that bad (you can probably get the sprayer cheaper elsewhere) and you will get a better result! It's worth the shipping wait time I assure you! Shibs
  7. I am looking to purchase a Spray Kit to apply my finish, I went to www.stew-mac.com and they have two of the smaller, cheaper units, they are the Badger 150 and Badger 400 kits. I have talked with some friends and they told me that the Badgers weren't that good in the past but they may have improved them since they used them last, Has anyone used them and have an oppinion on their performance, perhaps there is a better one available that I don't know about. PLMK Thx, Shibs
  8. That is a great color Blue, Go for it..... Show us the end result! Shibs
  9. Here is the link for the tutorial... http://www.projectguitar.com/tut/removal.htm shibs
  10. I'm glad that you asked this question, I was planning to do a similar project. But, I have been considering removing the fretboard and start that part from scratch, it seems easier to work with that way, you will have to remove the frets anyway, so refretting will have to be done either way. Anyway, good luck with it! Shibs
  11. I guess that I am somewhat lost here, I purchased my PRS on eBay, they have a catagory listed in the electric guitar section, if they were going to pull auctions because they say PRS, why wouldn't they just pull the whole catagory? The guitar that was pulled must have had something special about it, was it a Dragon? Anyway, I hate to sound lost, but I seen at least 100 PRS's for sale on eBay everyday..... I have seen a Peavey EVH get pulled of for copy right reasons, but it was painted exactly like Eddy Van Halens old Kramer which is copy righted. Shibs
  12. I think that they are the best looking quitars on the market, I also own one and it plays just nicely, I also own a Gibson Les Paul Standard Honey Burst that looks beautiful, but honestly, it doesn't feel the same as my PRS, the action is better and my fingers seem to flow up and down the neck more fluidly, I also own a Steinberger the I travel with (fits in the overhead on aircraft) and even though it's a cheap guitar, it seems to play nicely too, so in my opinion, the cost of the guitar doesn't always dictate it's playability. It's the set up...... You have to have a good neck and then set it up for your needs, I currently own 5 guitars and am considering the purchase of a Peavey EVH. Anyone own one? If you do, let me know how it plays! I also pump my pick-ups through a H&K Warp 7 half stack. Shibs
  13. Nice pic, but I would be affraid to hang them up like that, one nice breeze and a truck driving by on the dirt road and it's start all over time..... Shibs
  14. You could try using a few cards from a deck in a scanner, if you have one and the software will probably let you resize the image. Shibs
  15. Water based dyes and alcohol based dyes both have advantages and disadvantages, I would read the Basic finishing tutorial at the reranch website, there is about 6 pages on their Dyes link that will help! http://reranch.august.net/dyes.html Shibs
  16. I haven't tried the poor boys burst yet, but I would guess that if you make the template a little smaller that the tutorial suggests, you will get the burst deeper to the center, as far as the push pins are concerned, their function is to hold the template up off of the body, you can actually put the push pins anywhere on the template, it says one inch from the edge, if you are concerned, you can take them in another inch farther, but I would consider using something other than construction paper because it may sag some around the edges with the pins that far in, perhaps you could use cardboard? Anyway, good luck and take pictures! Shibs
  17. I'm Thinking 6 pieces with 5 glue lines. But after reading further it's only two. well done! Shibs
  18. I'm Thinking 6 pieces with 5 glue lines. Shibs
  19. Only Semi-Talented, I have been playing for a few years now, but I am No Where near the player that I hope to someday be! Shibs
  20. I don't see Alex Lifeson or Eddie Van Halen on this list, Hmmmm. They are all talented guitarists in their own ways, but the two that I have mentioned are by far the best I've ever heard or watched play. When I listen to Alex playing YYZ or La Villa Strangiato I get Chills...... 1fast350z
  21. Hi all, Well, I have my Maple top on the body and I am happy with the way it turned out at this point, I want to put binding on the top, all the way around the body. It's a fender strat body and as we all know, it has a curved or tapered arm rest, the rest of the body is flat, I am worried about keeping the router level so that my channel is even and at the same depth all the way around. Any suggestions on a good method for this? deshibs
  22. Before I glue my Veneer down, I want to ask one more question, I have mentioned in other posts that I am considering binding the top, I am going to use a flamed maple veneer, should I route the edges before I apply me veneer and then trim it down to the routed edge or should I route the edges after applying the veneer. I am worried about the veneer chipping. Should I be concerned about this? deshibs
  23. I have seen a few of these types of Painted Peavey EVH guitars on eBay get removed by eBay for this reason, be careful..... deshibs
  24. If you contact them by phone, they may not have shipped it yet, there would be a good chance of increasing your first order.
  25. Great! I will apply the grain filler to the back and sides first, attach the Veneer and Binding, That's when I will Dye the whole thing (top, sides and back) black, sand it back and then apply the cherry dye. deshibs
