  1. i *believe* you should put the frets on before a rub down with lemon oil. i've never made a neck, fretted one etc, but i do know that the wood will contract a little as it dries, so it'd be best to have a tight fit when it's contracted some, then when it expands a little bit after being conditioned, the frets will still be nice and tight.
  2. they really do look pretty cool...they could be decent...who knows. let us know how they are...
  3. rosewood is left unfinished. just use some lemon oil on it every couple of months(4-6) to keep it moist and full of the nutrients it needs to not crack and you'll be fine.
  4. sadly, i've actually played one of those. pretty wicked...sounded kinda tinny tho...
  5. yeah, it should turn out pretty cool, the only thing i would have done is put a center lamination of something either white(maple) or something red(paduk) in the middle of the mahogany, just for a touch of flare...
  6. no problem, i just hate giving criticsm without putting my thoughts out on the subject, but i'm glad i could help! the body looks cool...i'm sure it's gonna look a lot better when sanded and stuff than it did on paper. i really like the shape of the body. what kind of top you using?
  7. it's from a japanese one. i have a japanese super tele, and that's what the block has on it, along with a little circular design. it's still good dude, very quality...
  8. i know criticism doesn't mean anything without the constructive part. so, i went into paint with your 2 original designs(body and headstock) and thought i'd put together a headstock that i thought'd be more suitable for the guitar. basically what i did was took the lower bout the of guitar(the curved part), shrunk it down, rotated 180 degrees, slapped it ontop of the headstock, and made everything fit into itself. i think side by side to the body it fits better, and looks fine on it's own.
  9. oooh man...that's a pisser...hopefully everything comes out fine..it's such a beautiful guitar...
  10. yes, yes you can. but you cant put acoustic strings on an electric...
  11. the body is...meh...kinda like a jagstang meets a kelly, very original tho. but, dont take my opinion too strongly, i'm more of a traditional style guy. the headstock, though, does need work. if it were a bit longer, and had a more powerful arc on it, on top, rather than the softer slope you have, it'd look a lot more suited to the radical curves of the guitar.
  12. "In all seriousness, though, why so low wattage? Seems like a lot of work for what ends up being basically a practice amp!" what do you mean basically a practice amp. in any live situation, except rehearsals, there should be a PA used...and the last time i checked, it didn't matter how many watts the amps were through a PA. plus, even at a rehearsal 25 watts, even solid state, is plenty enough to be heard.
  13. what'd be sweet is if you could turn some knobs, ebony enrobed in paduk. that'd look killer.
  14. infact, here's one of those veneers... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...ssPageName=WD1V pretty pricey tho...but it IS gibson authorized...
  15. yes, the gibson is also inlaid onto the headstock. with a steady hand and a good template, you really pretty easily could route out the place for the inlay. if you've already gotr the gibson on there(the sticker from the studio), you could just trace that out, and fill it up with some abalone, or MOP, or whatever material you'd use.
  16. no, he'd have to inlay the split diamond if he wanted it to be true to the LP custom form.
  17. really? mine were... anyways, definately use an inexpensive piece of wood, rather than the $200 one, with the $200 top...big mistake. it'd be a shame to see a nice piece of flamed koa(which is BEAUTIFUL!) wasted...
  18. sanding down the finish would be the easiest way to go, i'm sure. you could always go to your home depot and get some aircraft stripper or some other heavy duty stuff and rip the junk off like that. and to all the coke stuff...snopes.com will tell you everything you need to know under cokelore.
  19. look around at some of the relics threads, you can get some good tips from there.
  20. that...that's...well...a work of art. very beautiful! i checked out your website man...all of your stuff is beautiful. if you dont mind me enquiering, how much would that cost a client? i understand if you dont want to divulge that info. that's just some great work you do...
  21. what would be really cool is if you did it as a veneer, but made it an actual jigsaw puzzle. one that could be put together without glue. and setch, i dont remember who, but someone out there has a guitar with a jigsaw piece missing from the headstock. looks really cool.
  22. i say you should do the double sided axe, and paint it realistically. IE the middle slate gray, and the edges a silver.
  23. look at prs's. the single bar on top of the guitar is a wraparound bridge. very unobtrusive.
  24. definately say string througn with a TOM. they look great, function fine, and well...kick arse. so yeah...string through.
