  1. keep in mind that sustain is a function of mass.....which means heavier is more sustain....however, you can always add mass im thinking a maple 7 string might sound pretty good to balance out the mushiness of the low b scott just has sanding issues in general.....i wouldnt worry too much about the ash
  2. nice wood but way way over priced...i can get a whole billet for that price
  3. first off, im not a evh fanatic....i just make replicas eddies guitars werent barettas...the body was actually a pacer and the necks were just some custom one offs from when they were designing the first baretta, commonly refered to the no-bozo baretta....ed would just get handfulls of the bodies and necks and his tech would paint them and assemble them here is a tape template for the stripes http://vh-guitarstore.com/eddie%20template.htm ill try to get pics of the back and headstock up in the next few days for a real evh paint job, you want to use spray paint while drinking a few beers.....paint it white first, tape off with blue 3m tape, be sure to get all the seams tight.....paint it red, remove the tape.....reverse mask for the black stripes and spray them.....if you want the relic look let me know, ill give you some pointers
  4. ive got both the HVLP system and compressed air system for spraying........HVLP systems are very expensive and you really need to research them.....depending on what your spraying will determine if you need one, and of course your local laws.....personally, i never use the hvlp system.....i spray low viscosity paints and the hvlp just cant atomize them.....some do work with the waterborne finishes(make sure you have the correct tip) and most with lacquer.....be sure to ask those questions when buying one....they are not all equal......you also want to find one that has spare parts available.....one with lots of tip choices, and id go with at least a 3 stage turbine...here are some links to start researching http://www.gleempaint.com/hvlp.html http://www.gleempaint.com/test.html most of the good quality compressed air guns have spray adjustments anyway, so you dont have overspray.....id really suggest getting a decent gun like a devilbiss or a sata over any hvlp system i really dont like any of the waterborne finishes....they arent very durable...polyester is the only way to go
  5. i thought they did do mail order only.....i know ive talked to them on the phone
  6. i always knock off the sharp edges on the fingerboard and condition it.....it gives it a broken in feel
  7. i originally started out on a 12 inch craftsman.....you have to get creative at times, but for basic stuff its ok....i might be interested in selling it since i dont use it anymore.......i only use a bandsaw for resawing now
  8. youd want a band saw....scroll saws arent strong enough.....and get a nice one, stay away from the lil table top stuff, they wont hold up
  9. i know right now id pay big money for some cad work in 3-d.....im thinking about running off to a class on it......its been over 14 years since i used it and it is completely different now.....by the way, i meant the plywood templates were worthless
  10. your best bet is to go to the source...i.e. pacific northwest....youll find the best prices there and the quality....i like gilmore woods for some things.....they can be expensive, but they are worth it....marc is a good friend and often helps me out.....a little tip, dont badger him or get too ****...let HIM pick out some pieces....youll get killer deals that way of course, i use some other places mostly because of price....maple works is good if you have resaw capabilities....ive bought some killer billets of sausage quilt from them for cheap....
  11. what you do is take a exact copy of the logo to a sign shop.....ask them to make you a paint mask.....they cut it out in either vinyl or frisket paper for you.....frisket is better, its easier to take off when your done.....
  12. i believe all parts or wd parts have spme generic white pick up covers.....like the ones jackson uses to paint over
  13. i dont know if that has anything to do with your drawings....those templates are worthless, so i dont know who is buying them.... as for your drawings, if you could do them in 3-d, id pay you some big bucks
  14. im looking for a high quality airbrush system....i need all information for a complete system....i wanna be able to order and start painting right away...basically, i dont wanna keep ordering parts after i get the airbrush, ...i want it up and running instantly...any ideas?
  15. all they did was send out a few letters informing of the copyright and asking them to stop infringing....it was all done by a internet company that specializes in copyrights...noone was sued and i dont think the company is retained by evh any longer....it was just a sweep so ed could claim his copyright without loosing it
  16. ive met him and ive talked to him several times..........i dont like his prices so i wouldnt buy anything from him....i dont need to do business with him, so i dont....i also dont know that id trust his so called guitar lines as being as good as they are.....ed's opinion is based on his investment in a product.....most of those guitars are made by local small time luthiers that he found and talked into doing business with..all the paint jobs are done by GMW....thats why everything is so expensive, its all outsourced.....and who knows if any of it is korean or vietnamese
  17. one thing about ed roman that ive come to realize......everyone says to stear clear because he rips you off.....i have yet to actually meet anyone ripped off by him.....charging high prices isnt ripping someone off.....if you dont like his prices, i say just move along and keep your mouth shut......he once told me his philosophy on his pricing, it was something like "if its rare and hard to find, ill charge way over top dollar...if its something that anyone can get, i gaurentee ill be the lowest priced" somewhere there is someone willing to pay a kings ransom for something......and believe me, ed will find him.....nothing wrong with that what i have a problem with he is willing to fake anything and allegedly did so often...... non related p.s. absolutely no one has ever been sued or gotten into copywrite trouble over evh paint job.....like most of this thread, that is all rumor
  18. i gotta put my 3 cents on this......cause ive been on both sides of the argument....my main line of guitars is neck through, but ive basically only played bolt ons my whole life.....basically if falls out like this.....die hard jackson fans think it has to be neck through for tone and sustain and quality......bolt on fans ALWAYS site that they like it because they can change the neck if it gets broken...both arguments are silly ive been playing/building/ and just reaking havoc now on guitars for about 19 years.....and im talking some serious playing and wear and tear......ive only broke 2 necks......AND, in each case it was a bad glue joint on the headstock---builder error point is this, i dont know anyone who is breaking necks so much that they need a bolt on.....besides, the neck is the main part of the feel of a guitar, why would you change it if it broke? a properly built bolt on will sustain just as well as a neck through
  19. what will help is to attach a tracing pencil to a small engineers square so that your pencil never wanders as you follow the body also, if you go the router meathod, put protective tape aroound the body where the pin or the bearing touch
  20. there is also a company called rub down transfers that does logos....ive had some of their samples and its pretty nice....i think im going to start using them
  21. you gotta let me know where and what kind of pearls youre getting for that.....most good quality pearls are $40 a pint for the basecoat(depending on color) and a little more for the pearl coat...and if its your first time painting pearls, youre going to screw up a few times
  22. youre probably looking at $100-150 for a top like that......gilmer woods is a good supplier for that type of thing
  23. yeeesss, i have everything......i buy the maple from the same people that supply tom anderson, ernie ball and whoever else that kind of maple is expensive.....expect to pay a lot
  24. let me know....i dont mind, but if it becomes a all the time deal, i might have to make a few pennies, at least for scott i have daily access to over 250 species of wood, so its not a big deal
