  1. actually, I was kind of wanting to know the answer because i have seen speakers that are 3.5 inches wide and can handle 150 watts online, and it would be interesting to have a cabinet as loud as a fairly large combo amp, and the answer I was seeking (should have been more specific, I didn't mean AS GOOD i meant its response range) was answered and thats what I thought when I initially saw the speaker and it would be cool too have a small cab like that. btw, what is a good frequency responce range to look for in speakers (in Hz/kHz)
  2. i love audactiy, its the shiz, i want cubase sx 2.2 tho.
  3. gotta throw in the old classics right? http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=guit...ase_pid/518353/ HEY TWO IN ONE! http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=guit...ase_pid/518748/ want some more epis? http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=guit...ase_pid/518557/ hey a free gift! http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=guit...ase_pid/519477/ i would also reccomend a jackson rhoads, but htat doesnt meet your specs.
  4. my goal isnt to sound proof, but to keep as much sound as possible in the recording room, so I guess they go hand in hand, but the foam stuff I have heard has great results.
  5. so a 3.5 inch speaker that can handle 150 watts would sounds as good as a 12 inch that could handle 150 watts at high volumes?
  6. I was thinking about getting the SM57 for the mics, i read about them in the other thread, do you guys think thats a good idea?
  7. my chemistry teacher(builds guitars/plays guitar) hadn't even heard about this incident until a few days ago when I was talking about it to a kid in hte class. He was a huge Pantera fan back in the day, but hadn't kept up on them. As a tribute (he's an awesome painter, artist) he painted a black and white mural of him and put it up in class (it was black and white except for the reddish pink tip of his goatee) against the wall. it was beautiful.
  8. alright, he was also wanting me to do some other stuff for him right now, so I'll see if I can do that instead (tube distortion unit).
  9. well, I could, but my dad (who helped pay for this amp) thinks that all the "projects" I do are going to ruin something, and I had actaully thought about that but he wouldn't let me. I might do it someday while he's not watching.
  10. thanks for putting it into persepective for me LK, I thought it would be more simple, like this http://absurdevidence.radiostudent.si/borut/SimpleMixer.jpg thanks again.
  11. well, it's mainly just to test out speaker cabinets and its fun to mess with speakers and build your own crap from the ground up.
  12. solder more wire to it, and add heat shrink tubing to the joint. just strip the new wire at the end and solder it to the stripped part of the original wire, and then cut heat shrink tubing to length and put it over it and apply heat.
  13. I'm trying to build it, you said mixing the 2 would be harder to build, so I wondered if I could make 2 seperate units insyead of one. thats one mixer with 5 xlr inputs and 2 rca outputs and a usb port out, and a volume knob for each input. another mixer with the same thing but 1/4" jacks instead of xlr sorry to be so persistent, but I'm just curious.
  14. you act like your's isn't popular. its got 6 pages of "good jobs"!! good luck again.
  15. if anyone is still interested in tips do songs that either 1. the timing of strumming is the same timing as the words (you hit a strum everytime you say a word) 2. the notes of the song are the same as the notes of the vocals a gfew good songs to practice: aerials by system of a down pride by seether love her by seether (chorus mainly) try that then get into songs that have a steady strum pattern (like this: 3--2--3 3--2--3 1--0--1 1&2& 3 then once u get the hanjg of that start doing every song you can paly and sing, then do it together.
  16. what if he were to use 2 seperate mixers 1 with xlrs and one with the quarter inchers and record serperately or into different inputs while recording?
  17. You know, i find it funny that people never ask how to determine the fretboard width at the last fret.... which is just as important. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- I just take the measurements off of a board that I like that has the same kind of bridge.
  18. what I do is either: hook my guitar straight into the computer's mic input using a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter and record, or use my amp's emulated line out jack into the computer. if your using a pedal and no amp, use the output from the pedal into the computer.
  19. wow, weird i dunno what happened here, but what i originally typed was something like this: im moving sometime this month. my new room has a walk in closet. my walk in closet is a wall away from where the computer will be set up. in the closet I will be padding the walls with foam/pad that absorbs sound. i'm going to set up a mic to record the cabinet/amp in the closet and a jack panel with 2 1/4 inch jacks and 1 xlr jack in both rooms. I would set up my guitar in the computer room then hook the guitar up to the jack panel, then hook the jack panel to the amp and record using the mic i set up. i would connect the mic to the xlr jack in the jack panel and connect the xlr jack in the computer room to the computer and record. if anyones done this or similar, got any pointers and such? does this set up sound good? any concerns?
  20. I tried it in my headfones a while back and then tried it in the speaker phone cabinet (that I haven't tried out yet BTW) and I just realized the speaker from the speaker phone blows monkey shaft. It didn't sound bad in the headphones. Has anyone had experience with the tiny boss spekaers that can handle like 150 watts in a 3.5 inch speaker?
  21. when you say mediocre, do you mean mediocre in tempo, or mediocre in difficulty of playing. if you want mediocre tempo and no real solos, check out seether or trust company. If you mean mediocre playing skill, I can't suggest anyhting to you, I don't really listen to mediocre skill stuff, its either really skilled, or not skilled. and of course when i call a song/band skilled, I don't mean their actual playing ability, i mean what they show or use.
  22. i didn't mean "he's homosexual" i meant "he's a fag" and it had nothing to do with gay people, when i say fag, it has nothing to do with gay people. and some people might take it that way so I'll edit my post, thanks.
  23. well, I'm actaully doing this for a freind and he's using this for recording not for gigs or live performances. He wants 5 xlr inputs, and 5 1/4" inputs, all with volume, 2 rca outputs and a USB port out, at first he wanted a powered mixer, but since I told him it wouldn't be the best quality/money ratio, he decided for unpowered. What I need to know is when I split them for the outputs, (like I said, 2 RCA and one USB) will everything still be proportionate to what he sets on the volume pots?
  24. search on google for audacity. its free and easy to use once you get the hang of it. just be sure to save your work often it might crash from time to time. another tip for recording. either turn your computer monitor off or face away from it while recording because it crackles which quits oncei ts off or facingaway from it.
  25. it still erks me (yes i said erks) that someone could kill dimebag. god what a dousche bag.
