1. PROJECT COMPLETE. Please continue discussion here: http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=10596 Boggs- take it easy with the multi-topic posts. One topic per project. Thanks.
2. Yes, but that job belongs to the Tremsetter. From what I hear from Tremsetter users, it does an "okay" job of returning to pitch, but most still require tuning a little after a string break. The other problem with the Tremsetter is that you have a detent (bump) in your trem movement when using it. That doesn't exactly facilitate smooth trem use. :-)
3. Well, polls about woodchucks, changing of avatars, and monster-truck Maximas have so very little to do with guitar projects, I closed them. And, a poll about old polls reappearing doesn't really make any sense. Do I really need to explain why the "Should Snork" poll got closed?
4. Ummm...no. Correct. Click on the Endorsees link on Tremol-No.com. Follow the instructions. You're right. Having them installed in full-fleged, working guitars was a much better idea. Good thing I had a few on hand at the last two NAMM shows. Let's try to keep the discussion to a minimum in the Classifieds section. Thanks.
5. I'm looking for a Strat and/or PRS body with a damaged front. Could be damage from UPS, stray router bit, prairie dog chewing, neck snapping off, whatever. -Front and/or side damage only. -Wood flavor/color is unimportant. -Neck joint is unimportant. -Pickup routing is unimportant. All I need is standard tremolo routing, front and back. If you have the trem available, I'll take it as well. Old and beat up is preferred over new and shiny. Please email pics and prices to: kevan@tremol-no.com I'm comin' to you guys first....before I hit FleaBay. Thanks!
6. They do not *have to* have a badge or title. If one is offered, they can either accept or decline (say yes or no). See above where I said: "They do not *have to* have a badge or title. If one is offered, they can either accept or decline (say yes or no)." Good call. There's a link to the new thread at the bottom of this post. Wow. Ok. I will stop trying to be "fun and humorus" and just be literal. Do we really have to put EXACT examples behind each Badge and Title? Come on.... I saw a guy who 'airbrushed' using jet engines (Lear 20). His artwork sold for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Simply because you're using different tools doesn't mean you're doing it incorrectly. If you have a better title, I'd love to hear it. Actually, I think almost all of those Brian, Wes, CerealK and myself (and most other members) would consider "Master Builders", *could* actually get a job at the FCS. The answer to this will have to come from Brian. As of this very, exact moment in time, on Earth, where you're sitting, no. Let's take further discussion of this topic to the actual thread that's there now. Here's a link for everyone: http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.php?showtopic=10507
7. I have to make her honest again? When did she stop being honest?
8. UPDATE REGARDING SIGNATURES: Signatures: Your signature is to be text only. Pics/banners are big bandwitdth hogs, and take up a lot of "screen real estate". When you're searching for the metric screw size of Wilkinson saddle screws, you don't want to have to scroll for days. So, for now...here's how it works: Text only signatures. 2 lines max. You may have a non-business link in your signature. You may have a business link in your signature if you are a site sponsor (as determined by Brian). We'll give everyone until the end of the month (Aug. 31, 2004) to get their new signature situated. As of Sept. 1, 2004, if your signature doesn't comply with the above, we will remove the signature.
9. They're not privlidged. *WE* are. The Forum will remain "conversational", but the tutorials (on the main site) will be like...um...tutorials.
10. The LAST thing we want is for the hardcore members to shut up. It's you guys that get the new generation into building, customizing, and experimenting. Like I've said before, if it wasn't for the veterans teaching the new, and the new running off on their own ideas, we'd all be customizing our Rickenbackers. :-) You are correct: *content* of past posts will be a factor regarding titles. "Dude- that looks great!" is a nice compliment, but doesn't really help JoeSchmoe with his Floyd route issue. We will probably have a few members, with a couple of titles, that have less than 20 total posts. But man, in those 20....wow...they've dished out help, hints and advice above and beyond some of the 1500+ post members. We're not expecting someone with a title to know it all (well, except for Steven Hawking). What we're hoping to achieve is that the new guys will take the advice and hints/tricks from those with titles and put those to good use. Sure- some folks without titles will have good ideas as well, but the basis for what they're trying to accomplish should start with what an 'expert' has to say, and work from there. You don't build a house starting with the roof, right? The titles (or as you put it, labels) aren't meant to shove questions down your throat. They're designed to guide people in the right direction. You certainly don't have to post an answer to every single question posed to you, but if you feel the desire to help out...hey, that's great! The more folks with titles, the more options the new guys have to look for, and the more angles they can attack a project from. I'll start the "Titles" thread tonight (Announcements area). Suggestions are welcome, and greatly appreciated. Also, if you are offered a title and DON'T want it, we can do that as well. We can talk about it more in there. I hope you guys like the idea as much as Brian and I do. We'll try it out for a few months, see what happens. If it sucks and gets totally OC, then we'll ditch it. We're not doing "Extreme Makeover" here; we're doing "Queer Eye For The Straight Guy".
11. Slow down. Everyone. Soapbar- sorry man, but there is no big payoff. Only the gratification that you might be helping others, and they might help you out someday. No one has asked you to 'tell all' and reveal all your favorite tips and tricks, or for a full layout of your fretting expertise. If you don't want to post, you don't have to. If you feel the person needs to experiment before you help out any further, then that's the way it is (or they can get info from someone else). There's no gun to your head saying "POST NOW OR ELSE!". It's entirely up to you whether you want to or not. As stated before, post count will NOT be a factor in determining titles. Some members here (you know who you are) will get IMMEDIATE titles. There will be no questions, or project reviews, or any other criteria to be met. They've done it, and they're good at it, and that's all there is to it. They all earned their title a while ago and we will now recognize them for it so the rest of the forum can see as well. If you have a title and desire access to the rest of the site, then contact Brian. He's a VERY nice guy and can easily see that your knowledge is well worth having on the rest of the site. Some folks will pay for access with dollar bills, and some folks will pay for it with their past sweat and thumb-nicks.
12. rsera- I'm not totally sure, but I believe Brian is going to continue with the "donations for access" format he's had going. This won't get you a TITLE, but it will get you access so you can eventually get a TITLE. Doc- Let's finish sweeping the floor before we hang a new chandlier. Cool? :-)
13. You folks are obviously bigger 'tallica fans than I, though I did watch "Cliff 'Em All" 8 times in a row one weekend. I'm doing a little research on a project, and figured I'd ask the hardest of the hardcore fans: Does Metallica have *any* songs that refer to Satanism? If you could list Album, Song and the specific lyrics, that'd be cool. TIA. Sorry for the thread hi-jack. I'll be quick in and out. :-)
14. Yes, that and a few other criteria will get you the new title(s). Nothing will be automatic. You will have to EARN the title(s) with hard work and experience; not with clicks of the mouse.
15. This is a very good example why Brian *asks* for donations, but DOES NOT require them in order to be a member here. Well, the only members here with 2000+ posts are: westhemann Brian tsl602000 litchfield Ki swordsman weezerboy canuckguitarist AlexVDL Curtis P All are either Advanced Supporter, VIP, Moderator or Admin. I'm not sure about the "2000 posts then you have access to everything", but I'll check on that. With the post count going bye-bye, this will obviously change. The new rating system will be much more strict, and considerably harder to get into than hitting "Add Reply" 2001 times. It will also allow the new folks to see who does what exactly. The real members here will like it. The post whores will hate it. Just the way I like it.
16. Litch- remember how we talked about posts within 2 minutes of each other, and I mocked the holyhell out of Smitty for it? Right here: http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/index.ph...pic=10236&st=90 (about halfway down). If you're within 5 minutes of your last post, just edit your first one. Esp. if it's only 3 or 4 words to add. You're wasting screentime, scroll time and our time with (2) three-word posts back to back. In the future, I won't be combining your posts. I'll simply delete the ones that follow the first. Clear? Cool. My fiancee', the ever-awesome Rachel, is a Financial Planning Manager for Victoria's Secret. She owns Tremol-No #0029, so...she gets listed on the Endorsees page with a link.
17. Yeah, that was very cool to get from Jim. He's really helped out with this project, but in a sort of odd way. Whenever I visited Hoshino, I would take prototypes to his office for him to check out. I think it'd be great for locking down trems, but he would immediately shoot holes in it- "This is too tall.", "There's no way to do this without re-tooling the whole factory", "Is this plastic? Look, it just snaps in half!" LOL. It wasn't to be mean or anything; he was simply pointing out things I'd never considered. He's pretty much seen it all when it comes to guitars, and knows what works and what doesn't. So with his help and straight-up criticism, not only do I know how to make a kickass trem-locking device, but I also know what a lot of crappy ones look like. :-P And to top it all off, I get to call him a great friend. If you get the chance to work with him, you'll be pleasantly surprised. He's one of the nicest guys around, and builds a helluva bass.
18. Things are close to being finalized (I know I've said that 20 times in the last 2 months, but....). The day after that license is signed, they go into production. It's the only thing we're waiting on. A little bit of good news: The Tremol-No will be in the November 2004 issue of Vintage Guitar magazine! They're doing a NAMM Spotlight section, and the Tremol-No will be featured in there. Pretty damn cool, eh? :-)
19. Bicycle- thanks. Brian and I will talk it over and let you know what we come up with. Blues- good to see you back man. I know you've got a bunch of cool info over there, so thanks for hangin' with us. PSW- thank you for the formatting lesson. You done now? :-) What we're trying NOT to do, is have the Forum become stuffy and un-fun. I have this feeling that the members of the RollsRoyce Forum can't party like we can. In the last week or so, things have been going great. I've gotten a bunch of PM's about thread moving, title edits, potential tutorials, stuff to pin, etc. You guys have been fantastic in helping out. It's really appreciated, and I hope *you* like the changes that have started to happen with *your* forum. Keep up the great work and we'll have a very pro site in no time.
20. Good call, Southpa. I don't think I've ever heard a luthier say, "Wow...I have way too many clamps." Also, instead of buying a $200 router, lots of hardware stores (even mom&pop ones) have tool rentals. For the first-timer, or the one-timer, this might be a more economical option. HomeDepot and Lowes (and the like) also have free hobbyist classes for different projects. Check the list at the store or ask a manager for a schedule. These are great for learning basic skills and safety on new tools.
21. This one is kinda odd: It's a project, for guitars, about building a tool. LOL GF- when it's webpage is complete, maybe we can add this to the Tools section as well? Let me know. Thanks.
22. How about this: Where to buy tools online- Craftsman- http://www.craftsman.com/ McMaster-Carr- http://www.mcmaster.com/ (print catalog available only to companies; online catalog available to individuals.) Stew-Mac= http://www.stewmac.com/ Harbor Freight- http://www.harborfreight.com/ Feel free to add to this listing.
23. DON'T PM Brian right now. He's overloaded, and your PM might not make it through. Just post here for now, and when his setup is a little more stable (and they removed the Volvo from his front yard), bump the thread so he catches it. Thanks.
24. Me? A nun with a ruler? That's a little plain, don't you think? LOL We're not looking for company ads, or any other such motives. It was just time to take the garbage out, sweep up, and put on a fresh coat of paint. Maintenance more than anything else. We're not getting tighter; we're getting focused.
25. It's an Ibanez neck (GRX) with a fretboard swap. Stop by anytime. :-)
