  1. It's actually that easy, all you're doing is making the wires from the output of your guitar to the input of your stompbox shorter.
  2. Gibson L6S's are all maple and sound great imo.
  3. Actually he will also have to rout for the p90 since the humbucker rout is smaller than the p90.
  4. Got some more work done today!! Routed for truss rod gluing fretboard
  5. nope queensland maple, doesn't look a bit like maple though...
  6. After a long break I finally got some neck wood (anyone able to guess from the pics?), and started building the neck. Finished scarfjoint Ebony fretboard
  7. I actually like the dots. Since there's 'so much to look at' on the body, I like the simplicity of plain dots. But a very subtle inlay isn't gonna get over the top I guess. For future builds of this type I'd say go with just the inlay around the 12:th and skip the dots to give the neck a cleaner look. An idea perhaps would be to place your logo on the 12:th since the 'usual' place has gone missing
  8. Actually the logic is quite clear and that analogy is flawed, it's more like I like beer, so I hate it when I'm out of beer. Not liking headless guitars is not as wide a scope as not liking double cutaways. A neck ending without a headstock is always going to look the same, you can't change what is not there. I definitely don't think it's got anything to do with pre-judging anything, people have come to the conclusion that they don't like necks ending without a head.
  9. Lukewarm response? Can't really agree with you there, I think you've gotten a great response for such an 'out-there' build. Different people have different tastes, no guitar will ever be liked by everyone, what's the most beatiful guitar in the world to you may look like rubbish to someone else. If you ask me what I would change on your guitar I would say nothing, because it seemed like you where happy with it as it was, and asking other people what to change just seems like an attempt to make the design appeal to a larger audience. The point of a custom is to get something that is exactly what you want, If you want your guitar to be liked by a lot of people, build something more mainstream with fancy woods. I love the uniqueness of this build a lot more than the design itself, and I'd love to see a double neck version. Where does this sadness come from btw? you seemed to love the instrument? does not winning the GOTM take anything away from the instrument? On a side-note I don't think that not liking headless guitars is about prejudice. Some people just don't like the look of a guitar with no head, taste is subjective.
  10. I would never order anything from GMF , they basically just buy stuff from Stewmac and put a huge markup on it as far as I can tell (often over 100%). Buying from directly from stewmac has always seemed to be best way to go, both cheaper and probably faster as well (I've had my shipments delivered to Sweden in less than 48 hours with DHL the last 3 orders. On this project it was mostly hardware from GuitarFetish.com wich I also have found to be a great supplier. The stuff that I couldn't find there I got from Stewmac. Can't really compare them to the vintage Fender pickups because I've never really heard one. I do however really like the sound of these split humbuckers, they sound like humbuckers but with a certain amount of single coil 'spank' to them.
  11. That isn't using the oven light, is it? That is a much better pic. I've always liked teles. I own a couple and they just have a certain 'class' about them. Way back, when I first saw one, I hated the headstock. It just seemed kind of 'limp' compared to a strat. Now, however, I think they are great looking guitars. Of course, Roy Buchanan may have helped a little bit in forming my opinion. Cheers. Actually the sam experience to me, hated the headstock at first but now I think they're awesome. Although since this is a DeLuxe it has a 70's strat headstock
  12. Ok finally got a decent photo of the finished guitar!
  13. Just remember, sunlight is your friend. Also, it is best if the sun is behind you while you take the pictures so it doesn't wash out the photo. Taking good photos indoors (especially with point and click cameras) is much more difficult. Thanks, too bad I'm currently living on the Swedish west coast then, expect good pictures next summer!
  14. Couldn't agree with you more on the crappy pictures I'd like to see much clearer pictures myself. I can't begin to say how pissed I am at the lousy pictures, for some reason I just can't get a guitar to look like it should on a picture. It's so frustrating not being able to capture your own perception of the instrument, someone should really put a guitar picture taking tutorial on here
  15. Ok here we go, this is my third build wich I built back in may I think, and then it was a long time until it got a finish. It has been finished for about a month now but I've been on vacation in australia. Specs: Pretty much a copy of a 70's deluxe -GFS split humbuckers -Vintage style trem -Wilkinson kluson-style tuners -Graphtec nut -25,5" scale maple neck+fretboard with plastic dots. -All black with b/w/b pickguard and binding front and back for some discrete outlining of the body and pickguard. -Finished with nitrocellulose laquer, not because I believe it will sound better but because I like the way it looks and ages. -Neck finished with nitro died amber -Schaller straplocks I'm really pleased with how this plays and sounds (and looks!!), if you've got any questions please ask.
  16. No, just make shure that you get a good solid connection and don't forget to isolate it with some heatshrink.
  17. No.. You still need 18V in the reverb (assuming the batteries are in serial) and 9 V for the amp, unless you want to run them on batteries the easiest way would probably be to run them with two separate transformers. Read up on electronics at a site like allaboutcircuits.com and you'll be able to understand most of what you build a lot better, and it'll most likely be more rewarding to know what you're doing as well.
  18. I would put the reverb first in the chain as with a stompbox, and wire it with true bypass, 3pdt toggle switches are easier to find and not as expensive as the foot switches and could be used since you won't be stomping on it. Then ditch the output jack of the reverb and the input jack on the amp, connect the leads going to the output jack on the reverb to where the input jack would be wired on the amp.
  19. Impossible to tell, you can't give an exact answer to what a guitar will sound will sound like based on only what material it's made of. So many other factors come to play. You can't really predict what a guitar will sound like before you build it, no matter how many things you know about it. Anyway, I built a semi-hollow oak body and neck guitar and it was a bit bright, but that may or may not be only because of the oak.
  20. This forum is really starting to fill up with Swedes Nice design, had a read at your website as well. ...oh and by the way, If you've got too much wenge I'll be happy to take some of your hands
  21. Hmm... I didn't get anything like that either, as I recall it only says that the parcel has left the country basically. Anyway, I've only used UPS once for sending my ipod off to repair, had a bit of a problem with them but nothing major. I usually use DHL or USPS for my orders from the US. DHL has been extremely fast at every occasion (1,5 days from stewmac to Sweden) although I get the same problem with them every time. This is what usually happens. 1. I order a package from Stewmac 2. Some day later I'm woken up by the DHL delivery guy standing outside my buiding and calling me. This is great news, however they now tell you the little detail that you need x amount in cash to pay customs etc. They can't give you a bill, you can't pay by card, and it has to be EVEN money, no change given. 3. I ask if they can meet me at the atm wich is only 300m away, nope can't do that they'll come back tomorrow.
  22. There is absolutely a thread on the subject and a theremin could probably be added quite simply with a dpdt switch to the output selecting between the pickup output and the theremin, I'm not 100% here so somebody correct me if I'm wrong. I had an idea about a built-in theremin earlier this week where I wanted to use the truss rod as one of the antennas.
  23. As I said in the previous post I got my schematics from tonepad.com, go have a look.
  24. The sound is great from the byoc tube screamer, it also comes with parts to do several mods on it so you can tweak it. The other three where built from scratch from parts from a local electronics store, they carried all the stuff to etch pcb's as well wich turned out to be surprisingly simple. Here's an example of the phaser pcb. I got my schematics and layouts from tonepad.com for these builds.
