  1. Exchange and Mart? that some american thing? =\ I thought you was a British laddo? or you mean take a trip and get an exchange and mart? which I'm guessing is something similar to Ad Mag and stuff like that? its early in the morning, I'll allow you typo's cus I cant read properly at this time in the morning either... lol
  2. Just spotted this ending on ebay soon: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...me=STRK:MEWA:IT Just trying to figure how crappy that neck might be, I've never heard of EKS so it's tempting to stay away from it... but for the price so far its VERY cheap even if I just sling the body and use the neck! Which I'd probably keep the body just for use with some cheap neck I may get in the future lol
  3. well warmoths necks are rather expensive, and their 24 fret extensions just extend the fingerboard... is that safe? =\ I would have thought it would be better to make the whole neck longer? anyways, they are well out of my budget... and USACG is also fairly expensive, but not as bad... but the only 24 fret they do is a 28" scale, I dont even want to attempt that with my tiny hands! lol
  4. will you ship internationally? specifically, the UK... and how many fret neck is it? 22 or 24? thanks
  5. I may still change the curve's to allow more access to the frets but first I still need to get a neck as I said I dont have one yet cus the auction on ebay ballsed up... so I cant really route out a neck point until I know how big the neck is going to be, where I'm going to place it etc... So now my main mission is trying to find a 24 fret neck thats within my budget
  6. OK now a few questions and opinions... At the moment I dont know what to do next, I dont have my neck yet, the arse on ebay hasnt sent it me and isnt replying to me so I've had to file a complaint against them so at the moment I dont know if theres much I can do... I want a 24 fret neck but I just cant find anywhere to get one for an affordable price, this is my first project so I dont want to spend an absolute fortune on it... but I want this guitar to be able to use for those annoying solo's that hit 23rd fret and also because I dont have a guitar with 24 frets... any ideas where I can get one for a reasonable price? £100 is my budget really... also... as for finishing... my original idea was a black and crimson red paint job... but I'm liking the look of the grain right now, it looks kinda sexy, and might look really sweet with a stain or a wax... just wondering how effective those can be at making a guitar look SWEET? thanks guys, your all ace!
  7. OK, I've been offline for a while due to some PC trouble... damn graphics card packing in! Anyways, I've got a bit done on my project so I thought I'd post some pics OK first up, my plywood template: Next up, the two sides of my mahogany wood I grabbed from Arnold lavers for £40... a fair bit bigger than I wanted, but it was a left over from a big cut and it was big enough for what I needed and they gave it me for cheaper than it should have cost... Looks a bit nasty really, but once I've planed 1/2 and inch off its thickness it looks nice Next up I had a fair bit of it chopped off at my University (Sheffield Hallam, England) great bloke there, very friendly! Next, I was in a bind trying to find a thickness planer that was wide enough, thankfully a guy who helps out with a finishing company I'd contacted offered his services to me... So last night I payed a trip to his farm, he planed it to thickness for me and roughly cut my shape... yet again, a very nice friendly man £10 he charged... not a bad price really for what he did! Here's a pic with my body, and then then the bridge I'm going to use just placed on top thanks for looking
  8. Well I've been completly self tought, I had a book, but I thought it was kinda sucky so never really read it much... just worked mainly from tabs and some online stuff to learn basic chords and a few scale positions... I dont own a metranome, but I'm sure I could probably pick one up for cheapish? I think sometimes I just pick bad songs to learn, like i listen to my fav stuff, think it'd be easy to play, learn the intro, get to the main riff and its a bitch to learn, or get through most of it and suddenly i see an entire A4 sheet thats the solo... and my jaw drops and I just wanna cry... lol or with the example of "always with me, always with you" by Satriani, I get about 1/4 way through and suddenly theres just bits I cant seem to manage or dont sound right even though Im sure I'm doing it right
  9. I've currently trying to improve my thoery and knowledge about playing guitar, and I've just been reading some of the stuff from here: http://www.cyberfret.com/power-practicing/index.php The more I read, the more I realise that the last 2 years or so I've spent learning the guitar have been a complete CRAP job! I can only play a few songs all the way through, a few more minus their solo's and million "bits" of songs... my practising is random, I dont set my practising out or anything, and I skip from song to song when I get annoyed I cant do a piece... I think I just want to start over, try and forget most of what I've learned, and learn from new the proper way, with proper posture, learning not to have serious muscle strain, and setting myself a plan out... Just wondering if anyone else has done this? Or if anyone here has any tips of their own on how to go about teaching yourself correctly? I wish I could afford to get into some real lessons with a good teacher in rock/metal music... but right now I'm seriously broke so that really isnt an option I dont think... Please help, I'll be forever in your debts! then I can shave my ginger mop of hair, have a moheikan and look like this one day: lol
  10. I hate playing my Squier after getting my Ibanez... the frets suck on it, the necks too thick... it sounds crap... I think I've fell in love with low action and thin necks... I'm not sure if I could go back now although... I love playing my aunts Hofner... but that might just be because its sounds gorgeous, looks gorgeous and I want to steal it for its amazing inlays and looks! [edit] Also, recently been playing around with different guage strings, and different picks... I'm liking some of the picks I've tried... but I'm back to ernie ball super slinky's... I just cant get on with thicker strings
  11. I had a really bad wrist problem for a few weeks at one point... I dont gig or anything, I just think it was due to too many hours typing on my PC and trying to crank in 4 or 5 hours a day of guitar practise in without doing much warm-ups... So i cut down to just checking my email, and not touching my guitar for a bit... and I did the squeezy ball thing... thankfully the pain went away, and now I remember to warm up plenty before trying to pretend I'm some sort of Zakk Wylde or Jimi Hendrix... lol Also on a side note... punching walls does no good to your knuckles and joints, even if your g/f has been humping every guy on the block while you been away... lol Also... whats everyone's views on knuckle cracking? I used to do it a lot, but recently I've cut it down a lot cus I cant see it doing much good to my joints in the long run... but I know a few guys in local bands that are badass soloist's and shredders and they crack their knuckles every 5 minutes... and these guys are like mid to late 20's... I'm like 19 so I dont plan on wanting to end my playing before I'm 30
  12. I saw them at Sheffield arena Funeral for a Friend SUCKED big time... the singer was a complete retard! "this song is about goblins ahahahaha".... "this song is also about goblins... and ORKS! ahahahah" and the singer was REALLY crap at singing too, so he couldnt even get away with his retardedness... the music was ok, just I didn't like the singer or his singing but its not as bad as the support act for Chili Peppers in Manchester! funk rock band... and they get some eurovision song contest late entries to support or something... lol Chicks on Speed... OH... MY... GOD... THEY... SUUUUUUCKED... but James Brown afterwards... that was ace!
  13. I have two guitars that are playable... a Squier Strat and an Ibanez S470... and i have a big chunk of mahogany that will be a new guitar in a few months... lol
  14. Hey... for those of you in the UK, my driving instructor gave me the link to a place in my city that specialise in finishings, so I thought I'd share it Also on a side note, hopefully I'm going to be able to use some of the tools in his workshop/garage... wahoo! anyways the link is http://www.mdfinney.co.uk/helphand.htm aint had a full look around yet, but they've got clear finishing kits for guitars for quite a nice price, or so it seems to me!
  15. I believe basswood is what they use in cheaper guitars like Squiers... well thats what I belive anyways... I may be wrong... you should really go for someone a bit more decent... whats the point in making a Squier quality guitar when you can pick one up 2nd hand for dirt cheap?
  16. I'm just finishing off my template for my guitar should get it sanded down to what I want tomorrow... cost me umm £7 for a piece of 4' by 2' by 0.5" plywood, not exactly cheap, but a local store I could carry it from (I can't drive! ) used my dads jigsaw to roughly cut it out... done a bit of sanding, but due to HORRIBLE weather here and no workshop I havn't had chance to finish... I think making my own template is a lot better than buying one... I can just change whatever bits I need to what I want... bought my brazilian mahogany today too £40.44 inc vat... its 610mm x 540mm x 50mm ... plenty big enough for my body, and plenty of left overs to perhaps build me a little box to keep my plectrums, spare strings and capo's in
  17. wow, loving it, it looks mega sweet man! here's what I'm planning on making: Currently I'm waiting on my bridge to come from america, and this guy to post the neck I got off of ebay... I'm gonna freekin hassle him soon if he doesn't send it! Once I've got those bits then I'll move on to getting my wood and starting on my body, and sort out all the placement and stuff... then bah, lots to do! Need to raise some more cash too... as its gonna cost me a fair bit for my pick-ups and electronics
  18. This place is most active whilst I'm sleeping I'm in England so I guess thats like the evening and night for americans, where most of the guys are from... theres some brits, europeans and aussies on here... but mostly americans, so I guess thats why its busyiest at that time... The reason perhaps for lack of replies is cus they're not reading it as they think your just saying hi and introducing yourself, and not asking questions... they're a big bunch of helpful guys on here, helped me out a fair bit so far with my first project hopefully should be getting started on my body sometime in the next week when I go buy my wood Wish I could help you but I'm a guitar building newbie but good luck with your project!!
  19. http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/v2/diagrams/wh-10.jpg that what you looking for? heh... not the best quality picture in the world, but it was easy to find... so I'm sure theres plenty more
  20. could you not just put a cappo on the fret to save a hand?
  21. looks like a 34" scale to me... well according to the scales in the Melvyn Hiscock book
  22. well I've got a few on my list now... for bridge: Seymour Duncan SH -12 Screamin Demon.... or... Seymour Duncan SH-6 Duncan Distortion... Someone on another forum recommended the SH-8 Invader, but I listened to the demo's on the Duncan site and it just doesnt seem to have any mids or high, I dunno which but it doesnt seem right... for neck: Seymour Duncan SH-1'59 Seymour Duncan SH-2 Jazz so far from the Duncan site's demo sounds I'm tending towards the SH-12 and the SH-2... but I think I need to try them out for real first...
  23. I'm looking for advice on pickups to use in my current project, been looking over reviews n stuff... but I really haven't a clue where to start, theres that many different pick-ups to chose from, so I thought maybe I could ask in here and people could give me a few suggestions then I can read up on some reviews and maybe try them out in a store... OK, my guitar design first, just in case you aint seen it It's based on an Ibanez Iceman, I like Icemans so I decided to build one just with the extra horn Anyways, for bridge I'm looking for something that will give me a nice metal sound... I mostly play Metallica, Maiden, Sabbath, Deep Purple, some newer stuff like System of a Down, Hammerfall, Nine Inch Nails... So it needs to be a nice metal sound, but nothing really screamingly crazy or icky nu-metal... for the neck I'm looking at something more blue's style, for those metallica intro's, metallica/hammerfall style acoustic type balad sections... and stuff a little more crunchy but still in that area like pink floyd and zepplin stuff... umm... I think thats about all the info I can give... hardware wise I'm thinking of volume pot, tone pot with push/pull for coil-tapping... 3 way selector switch, bridge/both/neck thanks for your advise
  24. yeah I saw Maiden in December, think it cost me *converts to USD* .... $45... Maiden was very good, I prefer them live to Metallica...
  25. I'm kind of thinking about this too... I rarely use any of the knobs on my guitar... I sometimes use the volume, but only generally to OFF... lol... but I only play at home, dont gig or anything... I guess if I ever got in a band I might need the knobs... who knows... I think I might go for tone and volume, and have tone as a push/pull for coil tapping... I dunno yet, I need to look into wiring a bit more
