  1. I need to get one of those.... did u make one or buy yours?
  2. I think it wicked looking, i was looking around there site and not only can u use it for binding but you can buy a sheet of it and use it as inlay material.
  3. if u dont have to equipment to put a finish back on the neck, then dont take it off. To spray lacquer or just clearcoat u need an automotive gun and proper air equipment. I would leave it be, unless u either want a raw neck, or have the proper equpitment nessacary to put the finish back on.
  4. im gonna work a practice one, and see if i can do a contoured arm rest. Nitefly, i know i need to finish off the jem lol. Its at school at the moment, there are tools there that are better then the ones i have so im gonna finish it off there and this PGM is gonna be my home project.
  5. I started on my new project today. A Ibanez Paul Gilbert model, which will be given away as a gift. Here is a pic of what i designed originally for my 7 string, however I decided to use it for this instead. I originally intended it to be a Vai/Gilbert cross, but decided it would look to crowded with the handle and the F's. So there will be no handle on this one, just F's. Specs are as follows. Ibanez PGM Alder body w/ Highly Flamed maple Cap Abalone Purfling w/ a White binding around it Highly flamed maple Neck w/ reverse headstock Ebony Fretboard w/ white binding Abalone Vine Hardtail F's wont be painted on, they will be inlaid out of abalone shell Not Sure of Pup's at this time, but prolly Dimarzio's or Duncan's I got the body all cut out today, and am just waiting on maple cap, i expect the body to be capped and completely routed by the end of next weekend. Just as a side note here is a pic of the abalone i bought http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y77/DuffB...GM/IMG_0209.jpg
  6. As i agree with the above, i think u should do something not typical of Prs finishes. Such as a swirl or a fabric finish.
  7. the first vai song i learned was part of "The animal". 2:02-2:35 to be exact. Is basic enough, but also has a lot of cool techniques to it.
  8. i just searched and found a who crap load of spalted maple on ebay, what did u search for?
  9. Sweet, now people can get imeditate help when they need it instead of having to wait for someone to reply back.
  10. I couldnt find what you were talking about maiden, sorry. Anyway i went and talked to a guy in town about making these, he said it would be easy, there is just a liquid you mix with the glue that gives no glue lines.
  11. those are the ones i used for my jem. Very nice
  12. U can find them on ebay also, they really mean it when they say whatever IT is you can find it on ebay. lol
  13. i got 3 sheets of abalone shipped to my house on ebay for 14 dollers. Sheets are 9 1/2 x 5 1/2 inchs, they are thin as hell, but will work for what i want to do, cause i know a way to make them work
  14. what do u guys use for neck carves? Rasp? Routers? Spoke Shave?
  15. Correct, i like mine, saves a couple of 1/16s of an inch with the shallower channel, so allows for super thin necks. Im very happy with mine so far. Where do u get yours from Lmii?
  16. well if im going to spend the money might as well get the foredom? Is it that much greater then dremel? Does it have all the same attachments, such as a flat base and all that stuff, also does it use same size bits?
  17. Yeah i use scarf joints, and i was thinking bout skunk striping it with some babinga, but havent made up my mind yet though. I use martin style truss rods, i have used hot rods but they require quite a deep channel.
  18. When you guys are starting a project how thick is the board you use when you start. Im looking at some flamed maple on ebay and its 3/4 inch thick. Just wondering whats the thinest someone has used and had it turn out nice?
  19. Thought i would check here first, but i need a high figured maple neck blank for a present guitar im building. If anyone has one for sell let me know, either quilted or flamed. Thanks
  20. Which model or set(bits and other stuff that comes with it) is the best as far as value, and just ability to do the job neatly and nice? Ive never done anything more then just dots, so im new to inlaying but want to get into it cause it looks really cool and fun. Also what bits will i need to buy, the the "Downword" bits that stew mac really make that much of a difference? Or will the bits that come with the dremel be good enough to inlay stuff?
  21. ebay has them, thats where i bought mine, something like 12 bucks
  22. yeah i see what your saying, i dont just from my perspective didnt look that bad, maybe im wrong, im not sure, i am gonna try a scroll saw though and just do a mock up to see how percise and im also going to get a jewelers saw and compare the two mock ups.
  23. by scroll saw i mean this If u mean that, i think it can be used for very percise stuff if u get used it and practice. The girl in my woodshop class does some crazy stuff with it.
