  1. couldnt agree more with some of the comments on this thread. there are some amazing guitars on here built by true artists. as for me, im just a cocky little retard that has a dream... that sacred axe! not wanting to get too soppy or filisofical.... guitars rock
  2. spike, your pdf files are really good, but one major thing which would help me out and im sure a million other people trying to build an annihilator, would be to draw the beginning of the routered edge inside your body outline. (if you get me?) would make hand chiseling the edges alot easier if there was a second template to work from. im sure if i spent long enough i could do it but, i doubt it would be as acurate or as sharp as your drawing.
  3. i just realised what your horn (spikey bit) reminds me of, and im not sure if you'll want to use this as a source of inspiration when building similar guitars.... the horns inward curves remind me of those incredibly elaborate (but useless) fantasy swords that you see in goth mog shops and sword stalls, pretty to look at but made of aluminium check out some of these, theve been giving me some great ideas.... http://www.kopes.com/swords/fantasy/
  4. looks good in that photo fiend! your overall shape is slightly different to mine and id say excentuated more. the circles under the wings are larger and it makes the wings look like something from a battle axe! cant wait to see more pics!!!!!
  5. yeah theres still work to be done... is the bottom line for the neck slot? as for the top spikes... ive been avoiding them to a certain degree. they look pretty good but dont hold up to close inspection. i guess im scared of my router, its a beast and easily rips of little spikey bits like that. i managed to keep it under control when i re-routered the ass, but theres very little wood for the router to ride on so it makes it hard to pull across those spikes. my hands are up, you got me. i'll start work on it first thing monday (promise).
  6. minor update, some body work and pictures of a neck in trying. http://deadmike.faithweb.com/page_2.htm
  7. aye aye! some of those designs look familiar! i really liked the beefy annihilator, it has the good points of the design without the complexity. all shape, no ****.
  8. "impaler" is rather fitting considering it looks like a weapon!
  9. the best picture i had was of doyles actual guitar, the picture was a tad fuzzy but it had a clear white background. the guitar was slanted in the picture so i printed it out as big as i could and cut it out, then pasted it square onto a new piece of paper. the picture seems to have been taken completely verticle to the guitar so its at the best angle to copy the shape. made it really easy to scale up from there. i can send you the picture i used if you want. oh dear oh dear oh dear. i think jones are in trouble. as ive said before, a licence has never been given to sell misfits replicas and jerry and doyle only use there own, so how can Jones be advertising the fact that they supply bodies? its most likely that they have joined the ranks of gothic customs and october guitars that were challenged to produce the guitars, but now claim to actually sell them. a ploy to get interest to their businesses. im completely horrified by the gothic customs site. not only did they screw the misfits over with their dodgy dealing, they completely ripped off their designs and made some truly crap looking guitars. i suppose i cant really talk... im ripping off too, but at least my heart is in the right place, my copy is in tribute, not a relentless pursuit of cash.
  10. if its going to red and spikey, i reckon you go with a devil/satan/hell type name. thats unless your incredibly religeous... hellspawn or fireangel or firedemon? something metal sounding.
  11. i tell you what would be easier than making your own annihilator. make a guitar like doyles old iceman. simply take a good shaped guitar, router the hell out of the surface until you get some amazing curves like above. doyles old iceman guitar looked incredible and didnt comprimise the integrity of the axe because the depth of the routing was very thin and flat. i was thinking about doing something similar with a guitar in my next project, but i havent seen one cheap enough on ebay, if i get one cheap, then it'll be very little loss if it goes wrong.
  12. aye aye! did someone say misfits??? ah yes, the Annihilator, hand built by doyle himself. rosewood body wings with a through neck made from graphite containing 1 distortion module, 1 sustain module and custom made dean markley pickups. jerrys devestator is made of almost exactly the same materials. you will NEVER see these guitars in the shops. and if you do the person selling it is either a con artist or a dodgy dealer. nobody has yet managed to make these guitars at level that is both worthy of the misfits name and with an affordable price. hence why a licence has NEVER been given to anyone to legally sell these, hence why im making my own.... but dont tell the misfits, it'll be our little secret. shops such as october guitars and gothic customs have both advertised these guitars when they did not have permission to sell them, gothic customs doesnt appear to be around anymore but october guitars STILL have their inferior prototypes on their website. they are truly awesome specimens and have inspired many people to build axes that are a little futher away from traditional. just wait until jerry retires, he claims when hes done with the misfits he'll make guitars full time, then it'll be Annihilation for everyone!
  13. neither. the fin part of the guitar is starting to look a bit like a wing! (i reckon) devils wing? devilwing? satanwing? i dunno. i keep thinking of it in red...
  14. that is a fantastic axe! i love that purpleheart wood and it would just be criminal to paint over it. that twisted, spikey, explorer/flying V seems to be your trademark design! i have to say though, not sure how Anni influenced it? i dont see any of the curves or symetry there???
  15. it sounds like a great idea. ive only seen graphite necks and only from american companies. no idea where you'd get a big lump of graphite to make a body out of, its hard enough getting wood in the uk! not completely sure, but if my sources are correct, it would weight a hell of a lot!
  16. blimey! is that the axe you said was inpired by the Annihilator? its amazing! i can see the influence in the wings (i think you lot call them horns?) it looks really cool in that photo, but it may be the way the picture has come out, with a dark neck and an almost silvery white wood for the body. i wouldnt change a thing on it! if you lived closer to me matt id be begging you to make me stuff... a really good job there mate!
  17. you sure your only 16? thats some pretty good workmanship so far!
  18. cheers guys, i dont want to get all touchy feely on ya, but your comments are really goiving me the confidence to keep this project going! fiend: i think the wings/horns on doyles guitar are a lot straighter than mine, but i like my design so far.
  19. update on my geetar, must have been the shame of showing piece of pine infront of everyone elses fantastic designs, because i actually got off my arse and did some work on it today. was really nervous id muck it up, but i grabbed the jigsaw, did the nasty, then tidied up the edges with my router. http://deadmike.faithweb.com/mikes_guitar_page.htm still loads to do though!
  20. blimey fiend! where did you get a router bit big enough? i could only find a chamfer bit that was 16mm. secondly, the only way i could do it WAS with a chamfer bit, which needs a flat surface to ride against, so when i flip over to the other side, there would be nothing for it to ride against. so even if i did find a bit big enougfh, my hopes of getting that crisp sharp edge were impossible. the only way would have been to do it by eye. i dunno about yours but my routers a beast and it cuts wherever the hell it likes! next time im going to hand carve the edges and just spend weeks sanding it sharp.
  21. ...! that pretty much says it all then! i did see someones pictures of a les paul guitar being made with similar grain orientation. (this forum perhaps?) and it looked excellent! but it wasnt elm. my usual spikey designs wouldnt last five minutes with elm not that i think about how the grain runs it would be too easy to knock a chuck off! but perhaps a more rounded solid les paul shape could take a bashing and stay together. i reckon i'll put a slice at the back of my shed for another day and another project.
  22. i think you should go for it, it'll be loads of fun mucking about with it, and its certainly an unusual piece (to me anyway).
  23. ive not long ago landed some spectactular lumps of elm. af first people were banding round things like "they'd make great coffee tables!" and they certainly would. they arent the proper grain orientation of cut lumber, they are circular slices of tree trunk which are 5 foot diameter by 8 inches thick. they are heavy as funk and will be chopped up for fire wood (by me) i couldnt help but ponder the idea of cutting one up and trying to get a guitar body out of it. theres tons of wood talk on here but ive not heard elm mentioned. my mate says its great wood for making bows from as it has "an interlocking grain". its certainly a bugger to split with an axe. it would need an incredible amount of cutting and whittling as i currently have nothing other than a few hand/power tools, no bandsaw or tablesaw. possible great source of guitar wood? or am i just jerkin off?
  24. i watch ebay regularly, i and i did notice this thing. these japanese guitars never seem to have a partner, its like theres a million of them all slightly different. i never considered this one as it was too old and the seller hasnt named postage costs (always a no no). its hard to tell from the picture how good everything is on it. postage cant be more than £15, so at £40, what could you get off it if you were to strip it down? and what would it cost to restore?
